This band can do no wrong. I’m forseeing myself struggling keeping up with my vinyl variant collection for this band because I’m expecting them to be huge.
Friendly reminder this band used the slur "g*psy" in a song and tried to argue online that it was ok to say because the "lowercase version isn't a slur".
Kinda weird to frame something like that as a “reminder” when it happened barely a month ago and is very clearly a thing most people were not aware even occurred to begin with but yeah here’s the full exchange. Looks like they definitely could’ve handled this better (for starters, maybe if you have to look up a word to see if it’s okay to use you just shouldn’t use it??) but at least they’re not playing the song anymore
Play it sans modifier. I don’t know that I agree that their attempt to provide context wasn’t legit, though.
Doesn’t seem disingenuous in their response. Glad they’re taking it out of their live set. If they had a chance again, they’d most likely not use that. I consider myself pretty well “plugged-in” and didn’t realize the massively negative impact of using that word.
Same. Like, I knew there were mixed connotations but didn’t realize it was actually considered to be a slur by many people. It sucks because their initial response kinda implies that even if they were in the same boat prior to penning the lyric, they were definitely clued in by the time they cemented it. Which at that point, it feels like the obvious move would’ve been to not use it. Likely no malicious intent, but a problematic/privileged decision regardless and definitely a learning opportunity that they’ll hopefully take beyond just cancelling the song
Anyone got any recs for stuff that sounds like this album from this year? I need some good pop rock in my life.
I feel like most of the pop-rock stuff I’ve latched onto this year has been much more emo-influenced than this. These are the closest things I can think of House & Home - Find Sense. Feel Love. Make Light. (this one’s much closer to Adornment than this record though tbh) Slowly, Slowly - Race Car Blues Neon Trees - I Can Feel You Forgetting About Me
I'm fine with more emo leaning stuff too, ha. I just need some catchy shit with good vocals. I'll check those out.
I can’t wait to see what their next record is like. Adornment and Nella Vita were both stellar records.
Extremely meh for me. That main guitar line is basically stock, was hoping to hear something a little more creative for what is probably the most unique song on the record They set up a hell of an expectation with that reworked Baby Blue, haha
