The album feels like she went to a Taylor Swift/National school of songwriting. It’s very apparent with their influence. The album is great and can see it being a top ten at the end of the year.
If you took Swift / Bridgers and mix it with the softer moments of Eilish and Rodrigo, I think that's Gracie.
I think this album reminds me most of Olivia’s “Traitor.” But I’m not hearing any of the Evermore or Billie comparisons. But I think all three of those artists/albums did a better job of being a smidge more dynamic in sound. I was thinking more than a bit of the boygenius trio was definitely in here, though.
For the Billie comparison, it's probably more to do with vocal delivery than sonic overall sound. Gracie has the whispery vibrato that Billie does imo.
I need more time to form a full opinion. I haven't spent a ton of time listening to her, but I agreed to take my cousin to see her in a couple weeks, so I've been listening up and I am starting to come around to really enjoying her. I was really enjoying this album for a while, but I did start to check out for the last few songs. It does sound a lot to me like a more synth driven Phoebe or folklore/evermore. Curious to see how this will translate live. Her headliner is smaller so I'm sure it'll work there, but I kind of worry for her being so new at this and taking these kinds of songs to a stadium
I had my first listen earlier today in the car. Overall I enjoyed it but wasn’t blown away by it. It feels like the kind of vibe that will grow on me rather than being an instant wow. I did like it. I definitely hear the Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo comparisons that @Craig Manning mentioned. I can also understand why some people have said it sounds a bit samey. @ccsc918 I kind of wish I hadn’t read your post about it being a masterpiece as my expectations were raised a bit too high. I think some variation could have enhanced it, but as I said I think there is a lot to dig into and enjoy with repeated listens and I’m looking forward to that.
Everything Craig said. Sometimes her voice reminds me of Lorde too. But it’s def mainly a mix of Evermore and Sour.
Her writing voice is nowhere near specific enough to warrant all the comparisons to these other folks. Enjoyed this record a lot, but she’s doing something different.
On first listen it’s a nice enough album. Will definitely give it a few more listens to see if it grows on me. As a few people mentioned before, I definitely hear Olivia Rodrigo and Lorde in her vocal delivery.
Saw the tour from the barricade yesterday in Chicago, truly one of the most beautiful live shows ive seen. The tour is amazing.
well I guess it’s time to finally admit that when we got to listen to the album early at the listening party I went to, they also played us the deluxe. 405 and two people are some of my favorite Gracie songs, both talk and discuss about reflecting change and loss in a relationship and trying to move forward from it. Two people is a really emotional piano ballad that I think serves the concept of “two people changing” very well, while 405 focuses on trying to forget this person while driving on the 405. Unsteady is also some good stuff as well, she’s shown the snippet for this song before and I think it’s a really good track! Block me out is also on it and serves as a really nice refresher after digesting the first half of the album’s emotional concepts. Overall I think the deluxe really adds to the project and makes it even more special than it already is!
somehow got a ticket for the 350 capacity gracie x aaron dessner show in nashville, im so fucking pumped
It’s getting a lot of spins on our local radio station. At first, I thought it was Holly Humberstone and got really excited.
saw Gracie in Nashville tonight play an acoustic set with Aaron dessner and it was nothing short of magical, even got to hear a new song
