Yeah, I think that was a dumb comment, but I understand his sentiment. He just really hates Kayne haha.
Hmm. Maybe newer Gorillaz just isn't for you. I started with Demon Days and thought for a long time that album was perfect and part of me still feels that way, but I always end up listening to Plastic Beach more. Each album is very distinct. They are heavily themed and sometimes it gets a little bogged down by trying too much at once, which is now I felt about Humanz. There's no way I could rate Humanz over Plastic Beach because there's a very noticeable lack of charm and "Gorillaz personality" in that album. Damon was just kind of there in a lot of it. Also I just checked to confirm and there's significantly more collaborators on Humanz than Plastic Beach so I didn't understand your complaint. I will say this though, the songs are anything but bland. The Now Now is more personal. It's a lot like if you took the good aspects of The Fall and mixed them with the energy and the production of Humanz. The lyrics are really introspective in most the songs and Damon is front and center where he should be in my opinion.
I think his comment on samples was less of a slight at musicians who do it, and more of a "ew don't compare me to that asshole Kanye" reaction lol
this is possibly lyrically the best Gorillaz have been too. Tranz, Idaho and Fire Flies really caught me off guard with how dark and complete they were compared to Damon's usual writing for Gorillaz. there's some stunning lines in here
Really like this on first listen. I liked Humanz a lot too, but this is different enough that it doesn’t feel like a repeat or b sides.
I just realized what a terrible week this is for this album to come out. Competing with Drake and Florence. I just want Gorillaz to finally have a #1 album.
Gorillaz's main man Damon Albarn talks new about his 'fresh' album The Now Now - from politics to melancholic tunes What a complete 180 on his thoughts on Kanye. Album related this is reallly fucking dope.
Nothing reaches my personal highs of Saturnz Barz or Strobellite but this is way more consistent of an album than Humanz. So that's good.
I think Humanz may have higher highs, but yeah this is definitely a more consistent piece of work. After hearing the live version, I'm actually disappointed with Tranz. I wish Damon belted out the chorus on the studio version like he's doing live.
Also, when I bought tickets to this upcoming tour they said I'd be getting a digital copy of the album. Anyone get their download code yet? EDIT: Ah nevermind, I'm an idiot and forgot I opted for the physical.
I really hope that they do some story content cause clearly there are some plot points I'm missing. #freemurdoc
Oh! I can't upload it I don't think, but the box for the vinyl deluxe set has the cover on it in this really cool lenticular image. (I don't know how to attach videos or if you can)
I know 2D is on the cover because Damon is the voice for him and it's "his album", but I think it would be awesome if they did 3 other albums in the style of the other members.... ya know, once Murdoc gets out of jail of course.
the standard cover for this is absolutely lovely imo, I was really surprised to see people on Kingdom hating it lol
