Man I'm finally getting to this and this is just absolutely phenomenal. I'm a big defender of their later-era stuff (I think Humanz and Song Machine are up there with their best and there are a lot of amazing songs on Now Now and Cracker Island) but this really is probably their best since Plastic Beach and kind of gives me that same feeling that album and Demon Days gave me. I didn't realize this project was still capable of something like this, it really feels like the culmination of EVERYTHING Damon has done I can't wait for the tour
Listening to this album for the first time and this is easily my favorite thing they've done since Plastic Beach. I know a lot of people have had that same reaction but I didn't really expect to feel the exact same way and I am pleasantly surprised that I do. I do enjoy a lot of their post Plastic Beach work, mind you, but this is a joy to listen to all the way through and it's immensely entertaining.
I really enjoyed the front half of this record, but never made it through the back half with any of the songs connecting with me
I think I’ve come to expect more zest from them because of my love for Cracker Island which isn’t fair since most of their discography is more in line with this.
It's not like unbuttered white bread. I like Cracker Island. I think Oil and Baby Queen are excellent songs and Damon was happy he made a mostly pop album. But it's definitely one of the least quirky Gorillaz albums they've done and it's not really cohesive especially not with the plot of the characters.
I do like this more than cracker island but that’s not fair because I like this more than anything since Plastic Beach
Gorillaz Plastic beach Humanz Demon days Song machine Cracker Now now The fall I've only listened to this one twice so far
