I will say that the move to “Damon and Jamie make songs and videos with people as they can and eventually make an album of them” is probably the best shot in the arm the Gorillaz project has had in ages, especially considering how estranged they were post Plastic Beach.

So, more Song Machine, forever.

 

I really love Aries... the way it loops and how the progression kind of meanders a bit before doing so, is so good.

 

Finished listening the the main album, gonna dive into the bonus tracks later.
I really like the title track and Pac Man much more in the context of the album. They didnt do anything for me when they first came out as singles.
Chalk Tablet Towers was good but I was hoping for much more Annie! Weakest song is Pink Phantom, but I really enjoyed this on first listen. HUGE step up from The Now Now.

Yeah I was totally thinking about this when listening to the album, I'm not opposed to this kind of thing from the band for a while... just kinda releasing as they go, like seasons of a show

 

not really Gorillaz-related but I found Spilligion thru Earthgang's feature and that might be one of my favourite albums all year

the way they mixed in live gospel/soul stuff into Southern rap is smooth as fuck

 

for the people hoping and waiting on Gorillaz x Tame Impala

 

I feel like a Tame collab seems so natural. I hope they finally make it happen!

Also, I've been listening to this album A LOT these last few days.

 

Earthgang is dope as hell, definitely check out their album Mirrorland. They give me HUGE Outkast vibes a lot of the time

 

yeah haha Olu is definitely going full 3 Stacks with his delivery on some of these songs, but I don't mind

the interplay of all the different personalities (especially JID and Mereba) in Spill Vill is my favourite thing about it, I'm curious to see how it works with just the two of them

 

So much good stuff on this. Sony with JPEGMAFIA and Chai is definitely my favorite non single though

 

I really disliked The Pink Phantom when it was released as a single, but now I'm obsessed with it. At first I thought the difference in Elton and 6lacks energy was grating, but now I think it's genius lol

 

Yeah I like it a lot more now

 

I skipped it as a single and was baffled when I finally heard it but honestly it does grow on you insanely

the bit where Elton and 6LACK are trading vocals near the end is borderline genius

 

6LACK's part is actually my favorite part of the song

I love that melody in the "refresh your memory, of where you want to be" part

 

Watch this if you want to see him REALLY go full 3 Stacks lol

Is there anything else as good as “Aries” on this album?

 

That's one of the best but I really love Desole, Momentary Bliss and The Pink Phantom too. I imagine you may have heard those if you heard that one though since they were all singles

 

Seeing Joan as Police Woman featured on this threw me for a loop.

 

I know I'm the outlier here, but I think Momentary Bliss is the best track on this record.
