This is cool to pick a few songs to throw on playlists, but I don't think I'll be listening to this front to back again
Yeah I think as an LP this is very middling, but there are some stellar tracks on here that I'll be coming back to frequently. Too early to say tho because I wasn't big on Plastic Beach until like listen 15.
Some of this reminds me of that Mark Ronson from a couple years ago. Similar features and beats. Especially Strobelite.
Submission, Charger, Busted and Blue, Halfway To The Halfway House and Ticker Tape are my favorites as of now. B&B being my #1
Every Gorillaz album has been a grower for me, and I expect this one to be the same, but is it a bad sign that I think my favorite song from this release is technically a b-side? "The Aprrentice" is such a fuckin' jam... Singles aside, I do get good vibes from "Strobelite" and "Busted and Blue." Also, seeing serious similarities between "Momentz" and "Sweepstakes." Which is a good thing!
I really like this album. But it doesn't rank high amongst the others. Demon days>gorillaz>plastic beach>humanz... yeah that's all the albums.
Going through my second listen now and I'm loving this. I think my favorites so far are Strobelite, The Apprentice, Momentz and Submission.
I've never been that into Gorillaz but I've finally come around to Demon Dayz and this new album is pretty great too. Surprisingly one of my favorites on here is Out of Body which I haven't really seen mentioned
No, you're right. "Out of Body" is really good. Never heard of Kilo Kish before, but surprised Gorillaz have never incorporated a vocalist with her tone before.
Kilo Kish is a super unique artist. She's been on a few Vince Staples and Childish Gambino songs too Also I unfortunately didn't get the chance to listen to this last night. Will fix that in an hour or two
Kilo Kish's album last year was dope, so is Out of Body. Definitely recommend checking out her own stuff and her features
There are more songs on Plastic Beach with no Damon than there are on this. Just something I haven't seen pointed out.
Okay now that I've finally heard this I can say it wasn't disappointing at all. I probably like it better than Plastic Beach and the self-titled, both of which I love about half of and can take or leave the rest. This one is pretty great all the way through with the exception of a few songs towards the end, especially Hallelujah Money which I still just don't like at all. Really happy with this though, can't wait to see them live
