Am I the only one not really feeling this record? Maybe I need to give it a few more listens, because I love just about every one who has a guest spot, and I liked the previous Gorillaz records...
A few listens and this is mostly where I stand right now. I liked most of the prerelease tracks but something about the full record hasn't clicked with me yet.
I haven't listened yet, but that bums me out a little. Damon's parts are my favorites usually. Melancholy Hill is one of my favorite Gorillaz songs
Probably an unpopular opinion, but Damon is always the least interesting part of Gorillaz albums for me. I like it better when he just sort of curates/creates a sonic playground for all the guests. I think this actually has a perfect balance.
Still haven't listened to the leak but I actually agree with the above post. I like Damon's voice a lot but I like him as a musician/producer a lot more. One of my favorite things about Gorillaz is hearing people sing/rap over instrumentals that they normally wouldn't. Also, I can't believe I actually managed to get tickets to the tour today! Good ones too! I've had such bad luck with getting tickets to stuff lately
Yea actually the tracks with him more on it on this album are my least favorite haha. I like him and I think there are songs that he does well being the forefront but I think I do prefer him more in the background especially on this album
can't wrap my head around him having a 17 year old daughter Damon Albarn was trying to impress his daughter with some of Gorillaz’s new collaborators
Just released one of the bonus tracks on Youtube, and for me it further solidifies that Gorillaz is way better for me, at least Humanz-era, when Damon isn't all over the tracks. Let him stick with production and background vocals and get guests to do main parts.
That's why I didn't really like the first four released. I honestly could give less of a shit about guest singers.
yeah i disagree with the general damon sentiment here. i havent heard humanz in full yet but so far ive been wishing there was more damon in the tracks released so far, andromeda is far and away my favorite so far and a lot of of my favorite gorillaz songs are damon-heavy
Best songs on the album are the ones centered around Damon for sure. Shes my Collar, Andromeda, Charger. I love this album, but really wish there was more Damon.
Personally, Hallelujah Money is the song I keep going back to. It just fits the current climate so well and that trip hop beat is fantastic. That and more love for Benjamin Clementine is always good.
just want to point out that it was really easy for me to get tickets, we got them almost an hour after they went on sale because I was at Coachella and just forgot to log in at 10 for them
Just threw this on and it's awesome so far, Danny + Kelela song is excellent. It's amazing to have new Gorillaz music
I haven't listened yet because I'm waiting for it to officially drop, but man are these reactions all across the board. I'm not sure how to feel. So far, I really like the singles but do wish for more Damon so I'm anxious about this
After one listen I obviously really like it, there's so much going on that I'll need more time to actually have a stronger opinion. All the previously released singles stood out as favorites, which kinda proves how this band makes songs that creep up and build on multiple listens. For me, at least
Haven't heard the full album yet (waiting to pick up the vinyl on Friday), but I really dig the new song they put on Spotify - "the apprentice." I can't wait to see this all live.
Each section of this little interview-thing is very interesting, I want all the alternate versions Yes to Popcaan, Carly Simon and Grace Jones, No to Rick Ross: Inside the Collaborations on New Gorillaz Album 'Humanz'
