You are alone in that. Very, very alone. Hand in you Gorillaz Fan badge. I don't ever wanna see you in this Forum again! lol jk
I heard it for the first time very recently and only really liked 3 songs. Maybe I'll give it another shot since our taste overlaps a lot
I think it would definitely grow on you. It's certainly different from later Gorillaz album as there are not as many guest vocalists, much more Damon than any other album, but it's still super diverse and you can hear his raw emotion. On top of that, I really think that the songs themselves are great songs in general and it's probably their only album that doesn't have a song I don't like. The production is crazy cool too, something specific about it I can't put my finger on
I only really like the first two as full albums, that self title just has the edge. A Gorillaz song ranking would be fun to do, I know Hong Kong is number one but nothing else.
Hong Kong is amazing, really amazing, but I don't know if I would be willing to call it the best when it's such a stylistic outlier
I mean it's also my like personal favorite song. I wouldn't say it's the most Gorillaz song, but it's so good
Agreed, I love that song a ton. I actually like a ton of songs on D-sides more than the proper album, oops
This band just has an amazing history of b-sides overall to be honest. G and D sides are PACKED with Grade A material that wouldn't be out of place on a proper album, Doncamatic and DoYaThing are amazing standalone singles, it's almost crazy that Sleeping Powder isn't on Humanz
on that note, it's also crazy after seeing their live show how amazing Out Of Body was live, and that too is a b-side. ALSO it's crazy that we still have like 6-8 more bonus tracks coming in the deluxe version later this month or next. OVERWHELMING
The Damon version Que Pasa Contigo I always preferred, those early b sides have a ton of interesting stuff.
I will never quite..... "get" that song, and seeing it live was just as bizarre.... but hey, it's certainly unique hahha
To the discussion of the S/T, while Demon Days is for sure my favorite, I still wish Damon would reincorporate some more of the rock elements of that record into some new songs.
g-sides is full of great tracks, i never got too into d-sides but there's some nice stuff there too. also demon days is definitely my favorite and maybe my favorite album of all time but the st has my favorite gorillaz song
This is the first Gorillaz album for me I didn't feel the necessity to really have heard... of course initial listen since it's new but you know... I plan to give it more tries before saying it's not essential to me, but as of atm it's not a stop for me in their discography if I'm just casually listening, on a Gorillaz kick? It doesn't bug me, so it has that. But on it's own... just doesn't give me it's own stand alone power I guess.
saw them yesterday and was left a little disappointed tbh. the setlist was sort of weird, i appreciated the m1ai opener but they didnt play feel good inc which i though was weird and while i like sex murder party i felt like they spent too much time on it. i also went in expecting every planet we reach because of the setlists but they didnt play it. some great new songs like andromeda and busted and blue didnt really fit too much with the festival atmosphere. strobelite however was a very pleasant surprise live. i think i mostly enjoyed myself because my younger brother was there and he had never seen them and his hype was sort of contagious. also didnt help that i saw them on the plastic beach tour and that was much much better (probably my favorite concert ever), my parents also seemed to agree. also they didnt play submission which i thought was a massive missed opportunity given that danny brown was there.
