I can get that. I love Possession Island and I actually have it on a playlist that I put on to go to sleep, but I definitely see how some may think it doesn't fit. That's how I was a with Humility, it's a great song, but I felt like it was tonally completely different from the rest of the album.
perfect! I like the song. It’s just not what I’m looking for when I put this record on and listen in sequence. I always want the melancholy dance party to continue. Not end!
Only thing in my head yesterday was..."I'm a skinny little, skinny little, skinny little, skinny little, ape ape ape ape ape..." Might be my favorite Gorillaz track ever.
I listened to self titled today, after listening to Cracker Island a few days ago... it's pretty jarring listening back to back that this is the same band, but if you listen to each album in order, it's an absolutely smooth transition over time that makes sense. I don't know what the point I am getting at here, but I find something about that pretty impressive
Yeah in retrospect I definitely get the impression that Damon didn't fully have the Gorillaz "sound" formed yet. It was originally meant to be a one-off project and you can definitely tell with the wildly different directions the album goes. There are much better Gorillaz albums imo but that aspect of it makes it very charming
watching their Coachella set right now, really good stuff, great setlist from across their discography
this has settled in nicely as my goto listening for a Sunday afternoon “happy run” where I get just a little high before starting. just like Damon & the gang intended I’m sure
I can go for longer distances since I’m more prone to distraction and it make the tunes better for sure!
no new news, but I just discovered this album as part of my recent African music discovery journey and it's dope af. highly rec'd.
If I had to make an educated guess it's going to be unreleased content and something to celebrate the history of their 25th anniversary. Following that it will probably be their new album since Damon has been working on it for a while and said it's unlike anything Gorillaz has done before.
I'd kill for an anniversary tour of their first 2 albums. I really need to give Now Now and Cracker Island another chance becuase I honestly didnt really enjoy them. HumanZ and Plastic Beach are just ok. I know a lot of people here love PB, but when they went from Demon Days to that it felt like a step backwards.
isnt G-Sides the b-sides to self titled? I remember buying that on release day so excited becuase how much i loved self titled.
