It’s grown on me for sure, but still my least favourite. Always like when an album shapes up to have divisive favourites!
I enjoy it too. It's really awesome they're making a song/video like this. Talking about how thoughts and prayers ain't shit is especially cool knowing that Joel and Benji grew up in a very Christian background
So is it safe to assume there aren't any B sides/bonus tracks from this album? I've been checking the obvious outlets (Amazon, iTunes, Best Buy, Walmart, Target) and they all have the track list at the same 9 songs.
how is the album? havent had a chance to listen yet. of course it leaked right after i got to work today.
pretty good but self help really stands out on the first listen to me. of course it seems pretty much the general consensus is that it’s too short
holy crap you weren't kidding about self help. so good. agree that album is on the short side, but Ill take any GC that i can. Up until youth authority released, i wasn't sure i ever would again.
Just finished my first listen. At the risk of having recency bias, this may be their best album from front to back. Granted there are only 9 songs, but still.
Damn. I had Youth Of Authority start playing on Spotify automatically and I was confused but it’s cause Gen RX has already finished. So quick. Seems like an EP with my already knowing 3 songs very well Album is great. End may need to grow on me more as didn’t smash me like Shadowboxer. But I’m so stoked with it
I read an article/interview that said they didn't necessarily plan on releasing an album this year. Certain events inspired them to go into the studio in January and create these songs.
This is their best album since The Chronicles Of Life And Death, and could easily be my second favorite from them. Glad they went in a heavier and more alt rock direction again. This sound suits them much better than the same old pop punk roots they were trying to recapture on Young Authority or the glossy pop rock of Good Morning Revival and Cardiology.
I think they always somewhat jump back and forth between “dark” albums and “pop punk” albums though don’t they. I personally like both, YA was a good way to go for a comeback but I’m also excited about this one. Anyway, my vinyl is on the way but now I also ordered the signed CD because I hate myself.
I bought cds as long as i could, but now it's just not ideal (as much as it pains me). I just refuse to buy digital music, so buying the vinyl that comes with a digital download is my best bet at this point. Love having the large album art and such.
Songs like life changes and makeshift love fit them perfectly imo. not too poppy. Also, the second half of cardiology is very underrated. Songs like 1979 and there she goes are excellent. But yeah, I like when they do some heavier stuff as well.
Yeah that second half is great. Some of those songs on YA remind me of that second half. I also agree that songs like Life Changes etc. are a very good fit for the current version of more pop punk side of Good Charlotte. I like both versions of GC (not including the electro pop version of some of GMR) and I personally hope the continue to do both.
Exactly. Both albums seem to have two identities. Some is poppy, and some is actually more "mature" with maybe a touch of pop-punk here and there. I prefer the latter (not including the heavier stuff).
