Yeah I mean that’s pretty great of course all things considered, but it would be greater if the alternative hadn’t been Good Charlotte I suppose lol
I owned that first Wakefield CD, but didn’t know about the GC connection. One of the only CDs from my youth that I remember very quickly regretting spending the money on lol. The days where you’d see a band thanked in the liner notes somewhere and just take a $12 leap of faith at the music store. Say You Will was a pretty catchy track though
I didn’t realize this band haven’t played a show in over 4 years now. I really hope there’s something on the horizon aside from WWWY. Never seen these guys before and they’re a bucket list band for me
Ive always thought they put on a really good live show. And yeah hopefully WWWY leads to something else.
They're the one band from our scene I'm really surprised haven't surfed on the pop-punk or early 00s nostalgia wave and haven't done any anniversary tours or anything celebratory yet.
They future proofed their career with all of their side hustles, they don’t need to tour for income like some of the other bands. Doesn’t hurt that Benji and Joel married two of the wealthiest women in Hollywood.
On one of Joel’s Podcasts, I think it was with Pete Wenz, he said (I’m paraphrasing here) GC wouldn’t make music just to make it and has to be a reason for it. He also said he wasn’t sure if people wanted new music from them right now.
Youth Authority arguably was a very early example of that (not an anniversary, but capitalising on the pop punk revival). But yeah more was possible. I think one possible reason why they didn’t make use of that moment is because they just don’t need it as much monetarily speaking as other bands do.
Sidenote but Billy was on the nu metal agenda podcast and gave a lot of interest insight about their career: The Nu-Metal Agenda: The Nu Metal Agenda: Episode #034 - Billy Martin of Good Charlotte on Apple Podcasts
Agreed. Was interesting to get some more insight into the cardiology sessions. It was always kind of implied, but the extra detail was interesting.
I loved hearing his story about meeting System of a Down and having them sneak him in. It’s quite ironic because back in the day on that GC/MxPx tour I remember Benji helping some kids get in that were outside in the snow with no tickets at Showplace Theatre in Buffalo.
Definitely a good listen. Unfortunately it made me super nostalgic and made me want to see these guys even more lol
I saw them once, not long after Youth Authority. They were really great. I’m not a huge fan of concerts actually but I am glad I went.
