Chronicles is basically the only one that I still return to. Loved The Young and the Hopeless back in the day but it just doesn't hold up for me anymore. Seasons from self-titled is still a jam though.
I could never fully get inti Chronicles. Might have to listen to it again to see if my opinion has changed. Can’t remember the last time I listened to it in full.
I love the first three, all for different reasons. I think Chronicles doesn’t get enough credit for what it did because it is a Good Charlotte record and not by some semi-successful emo band. They took a lot of swings on that record and rarely missed (which they tried again but could not pull off with GMR, though it has some gems).
I definitely agree that they took big swings on Chronicles, and very much commend them for it, but I disagree that they rarely miss, I really think most of that album is terrible
Based on one listen of everything after Chronicles, I would say: Good Charlotte Y+H Cardiology Youth Authority Generation Chronicles Good Morning Revival
I feel like Cardiology also takes big swings but they actually work. The big swings on Revival are horrendous though. All in all, in glad they take the swings though, makes them a much more interesting band
I really have no idea how most of Chronicles goes. I was mostly out on them when Girls and Boys got a video, still bought Chronicles to give it a chance but hated I Just Wanna Live with a passion. Tbh I never gave it a chance so I probablyyyy should try again at some point. Giving Revival a chance didn't work out though except I listen to The River a shit ton now.
I Just Wanna Live is not a good song but I do have some nostalgia for it at this point because it was so huge over here at the time. Anyway, the rest of the album doesn’t really sound like it I think. It feels more like GMR song to me.
Good Charlotte would have heavily benefitted from today's social media landscape. Feel like they were a gateway drug band and people either lost interest or were disconnected from the later material and thus their commercial prospects spun out.
The only two GC records I’ve ever really loved are the first two. Third place would probably be Youth Authority. That was a fun record.
Yeah this is pretty much what my rankings would look like just by memory. I haven’t done a hardcore discog GC run in a long time.
The Chronicles of Life and Death The Young and the Hopeless / Self Titled Youth Authority Cardiology Generation Rx / Good Morning Revival (GMR has higher highs and lower lows) I’d put the Madden Brothers album below Cardiology. It’s fun. Greatest Remixes is terrible.
My wife's had laryngitis all week so she's been pretty miserable, but we were in the car a couple days ago and I put on "Little Things" and she couldn't help but sing along with it.
I've never been able to get into it either. Sounds like such a big step down from their second album to me.
