2nd favorite song from the album. This one is such a jam. I can't believe it's one that Joel wanted to cut!
I could go either way. Would love to hear a version with just Joel’s vocals for comparison sake (kind of like what they did with the river back in the day).
Wonder if they will release all of their records like those. Maybe we finally get Cardiology this way. It's the only one they haven't released, and the only one I don't have! Just got the self-titled in the mail today.
I finally got around to this album and.... I don't know how anyone can think it's anything but their worst to be honest. Sorry to come in with that energy lol There are some highlights like Rejects, Vertigo (minus the weird feature) and I guess Mean? But that's about it now that I'm looking at the tracklist again. Maybe I need to listen to it again but skip the entire chunk of tracks like 3-7 because I think all of those songs are pretty bad and sound more like Madden solo songs than GC songs, that might help the other songs grow on me some more I've always thought these guys were a little underappreciated in the grand scheme of pop-punk bands (their first three are genuinely almost flawless in what they're going for imo and I've always liked GMR and Cardiology, and thought YA and GRX were solid) but this one was a real disappointment to me
I … think I’d have it, 4th? Maybe. First two. YA. Then this and RX fighting it out. I listened recently and still … really like it. I almost can’t explain it.
I personally think it belongs in the half of their discography that has some big bangers and a lot of filler, but I’m still so happy with the big bangers. I do agree that Vertigo would be so much better without the feature, but Joel is really into those types of artists.
I relistened after a couple of months and it's not as bad as I remembered but I don't see myself ever choosing to put it on, all feels empty and style over substance. But then I do wonder what the brothers really have to say any more or how much their heart is in the creation of Good Charlotte music. I really rate the guys, they seem decent, I enjoy Joel's podcast and judging on recent live videos they are definitely better performers these days than most of the original 00s pop punk bands. However, tracks like I Don't Work Here Anymore and Pink Guitar as just 2 examples, feel false to me, like workshopped pop songs, something they'd write for younger artists, or for 2000s Disney movies about high school girls who feel like outsiders in the case of Pink Guitar.
Probably at the bottom of their discography for me as well as I only liked a couple songs. Youth Authority was a better version of that throwback pop-punk sound and that was only two albums ago. I'm also more drawn to the direction they took on Generation RX.
I really like like both of those songs, especially the former (that one seems very GC to me). I can maybe see what you mean with Pink Guitar, but it's still an enjoyable change up on the album for me.
I will say that, as time has gone on, I dislike "Deserve You" more and more. That's the one I'd leave off if I had to pick only one.
Yeah I would probably rank this 4th or 5th for me which I consider very good. The first 2 GC albums will never be topped in my mind so anything they release in the mid range I consider a win. There’s only 2 songs that I tend to skip.
