Makes me wonder if the rumors regarding the military interfering with Gareth’s original vision of Godzilla (had to remove to anti-war/nuke messages, put the US military in better light) are true

Getting ready for Monarch. Just watched King of Monsters and I have nothing good to say about it lol. About to watch Godzilla vs Kong...heard it's better!

King of the Monsters turned the MonsterVerse towards a modern adaptation of the Showa era of Godzilla (goofy, advanced weaponry when the story needs it, crazy science fiction beyond simply having monsters).

Godzilla vs Kong leans into it even more, I’m afraid. Sorry for the bad news. The fight scenes are good. Just shut your brain off for everything before the final 25 minutes.

Monarch is receiving good reviews, however, if you’re into more of the human drama side of things.

Unlike others, i didn't actually mind it in the first movie.

King of Monsters was bad even with the humans haha.

GvK wasn't bad either. (Also having just finished it, it was a GREAT movie) so I'm definitely looking forward to the sequel now.

Having said that and knowing Monarch is set between the 2 movies.....and knowing it's getting GOOD reviews (when KoM got baddd reviews) I think it can work. I think the thing with movies is we know we're getting a 2ish hour movie, let the monsters fight. In a show, there's room to breathe and I don't need constant nonstop action....I want a good story cuz I know in the end, it's a multiple hour story.

Glad you liked GvK. I loved it when I first watched it and still do appreciate MechaG and the fight scenes, but I dislike the Hollow Earth and how Skull Island (and all of its people minus Jia) are gone due to an offscreen storm(?!)

Skull Island could have been a perfect Monster Island but nope.

Yeah, fire demon needs to reappear. Last we see of him is his submission to Godzilla. Dude can do much more than that lol

I think both KOTM and GVK feel completely detached from the world of G’14.

For fun, I’d easily put on Skull Island.

    Fuck yeah!
I appreciate what they were going for and while on paper and based on previews I was super hyped for allllll the monsters........the human drama hampered it I felt.

That and every time I saw Ghidorah on screen I couldn't help but think of this meme LOL

‘14 is still the best, but KOTM is the most fun.

Also a very silly complaint, but I can’t stand the fact that KOTM uses the Ifukube themes and then they’re abandoned for GvK. It makes the Godzilla sequences thing feel very off. Just pay up for them!

KOTM rules. It's big dumb fun and I don't even let the whateverness of the human drag it down for me because....

  19. It's also gorgeous. Some of the fight scenes look like paintings.

Love 14 and KOTM for different reasons. Skull Island is fun too. Haven’t watched GvK since it came out. Also just got tix for Minus One on the 27th. Ready for so much Godzilla this month.

I posted it in the comics thread, but a full-color omnibus of the Marvel Godzilla run is being officially released next year. The first time decades in Toho has allowed the Marvel Godzilla series to be printed.
