This cast is stacked!! Between this, the Godzilla minus one sequel and Monarch King of the Monsters season 2 coming soon.. we are eating good!!
Matthew Modine posted two IG stories of Godzilla fighting Space Godzilla but deleted them shortly after. He left this one up
Spoilers from recent Supernova test screenings 1) SpaceGodzilla is indeed the main villain 2) Godzilla is the main focus like Kong was in The New Empire. However Kong has a larger role in Supernova than Godzilla did in The New Empire. 3) SpaceGodzilla was created by this planet eater who is teased at the end of the film. Despite that, SpaceGodzilla still has his own free will and is not controlled by it. 4) The planet eater is Unicron-like with tentacles that burrows into the planet and eats it from the inside out. The planet eater has a design that apparently looked like Destoroyah but probably isn't. 5) The planet eater corrupts Titans via crystals, SpaceGodzilla included, and these same crystals can spawn wormholes which summon the planet eater. SpaceGodzilla's role in this cycle is getting these crystals into place to summon him. 6) SpaceGodzilla looks similar to the Ryoriewkoi figure but with smaller crystals 7) No Mothra, Rodan, Gigan or baby Godzilla 8) The film features at least one new original Titan, with possibly two more 9) Kaitlyn Dever's character is a call receiver for Monarch. 10) Jack'O Connell's character is a colonel for Monarch's rival organisation EDN which is led by Matthew Modine's character. 11) Delroy Lindo plays the leader of Monarch 12) Sam Neill's character is Kaitlyn Dever and Jack O'Connel's deadbeat dad 13) Suko and Shimo are in the film but Shimo is not in it much. She trains Suko in the opening and participates in the final battle. 14) Kong gets an exo suit 15) The tone is similar to The New Empire 16) Godzilla's personality is closer to G14 and KOTM 17) Godzilla is still using the Evolved design 18) Godzilla gets yet another power up 19) SpaceGodzilla is the most powerful Titan in the MonsterVerse so far (Not including the planet eater) and keeps Godzilla and Kong on the backfoot for most of their fights 20) Godzilla and Kong are on good terms 21) The movie ends on a cliffhanger 22) Reactions to the test screenings are mostly positive with some negative reactions
Not thrilled to hear about the tone or the lack of Mothra (or my boi Rodan) but I'm most not thrilled about the cliffhanger business, depending on what that means.
As I said elsewhere, I finally watched this and something really sticking with me is how that final battle in the city with Skar King absolutely killed thousands of people but we gloss over and ignore that and everyone is all smiles because hey, at least Hollow Earth is saved; fuck topside, am I right? Very SpongeBob and Patrick "we saved the city" energy.
I like KOTM more than most, but I think this was the one that finally "broke" me in the sense that I accepted what they were going for/what these movies are supposed to be now and actually had a really great stupid time with it.
After watching Minus One and TNE, I just accepted that one will be more serious and the other will be goofy. I think it works because Hollywood cannot deliver something like Minus One. I’m just glad both are currently being made, so it’s not one or the other. Fans from both sides get their fix. Monarch kinda works for those who want something in the middle.
even this last one reached a level of dumb that made my eyes glaze over. when the cgi giant monsters move with zero weight or gravity its just expensive video game cutscenes
