Just finished rewatching Godzilla (2014). The first hour is so good—if it had maintained that level of quality throughout, it would be a top-tier Godzilla film. Cranston’s character was far too interesting to be written out early. There was so much more potential for his story.
The final fight is just so visually dark and difficult to keep track of when watching, really sucks the awe out of that climax for me.
The 4K version has better lighting during the climax (I was watching it on my laptop in a bright cafe and had no issue seeing everything on screen) than the blu ray, which I think is unwatchable.
I’m sure it will be an entertaining watch for me tomorrow, but with each new MonsterVerse film I become more disappointed that we’ll never get Edwards’ vision of Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan, as originally intended. No Hollow Earth, no gonorrhea jokes, no treadmill Goji. It’s a shame we’ll never be able to go back to the atmosphere of the 2014 film.
I've rewatched 2014 and Skull Island over the past week, honestly not looking forward to revisiting King of the Monsters and GvK lol
The family in KOTM is the worst set of characters in the entire franchise. The most redeemable part of that movie is the score.
every movie in this franchise has been the definition of a 3/5 star film imo. just fun enough to not be outright bad, but nowhere near as cool or good as they could be feel like I maybe should have used my cinemark rewards ticket for this instead of Ghostbusters tonight, but I'm more morbidly curious about Ghostbusters and feel like I probably know exactly what this will be without seeing it (and reading about excessive 80s needle drops confirms that). it's a big shoulder shrug from me.
