Godzilla looked actually terrifying in this movie, which is something I haven’t felt about the others. Idk if it was in the movements or just in the face, but he felt more specifically serpentine than just reptilian
Remember this vividly. Fun fact. Movie titles in Portuguese are ridiculous for no reason. "The One" in Portugal was called "Força Explosiva" aka Explosive Force
I was not expecting this to be basically a Kong movie with Godzilla as the villain for most of it. It was cool to see how Wingard and the VFX team managed to make Godzilla appear so damn mean.
Yeah didn't expect that either. Kong was always more relatable so it makes sense, despite Godzilla being the headliner. Thats the most consistent thing with G2014 haha. But the trailers oversold the Godzilla problem by a lot
I stayed far away from all the trailers except, like, the original teaser, so I went in relatively unbiased
Which is kinda ironic since Toho had a rule he couldn't show emotion lol https://www.cbr.com/godzilla-vs-kong-director-had-to-follow-very-specific-very-strange-toho-rule/
Yeah like he definitely doesn't emote in the movie, it's just the way he's framed and shot, especially those head-on shots, he just looks way meaner and scarier than he's been portrayed in these movies so far. They pulled it off.
I’m curious why Godzilla let Kong live in Hong Kong. Did Kong submit by roaring back at him? Or did Godzilla just sense that Kong wouldn’t be able to fight back even if he tried?
I took it as a cocky apex thing. Leaving him to die, knowing he lost and wasn’t worth the final blow from Godzilla. And that’s exactly what would’ve happened if the humans hadn’t saved him
I didn't like how that was done but I guess the idea is the Kong was yelling in frustration of losing and godzilla took the win. I did not see the next part coming at all though. It did not feel like godzilla knowingly stopped his heart or whatever. They just needed a reason for Kong to be down for 5 minutes
Yeah I as well took it as G wanting to show Kong who was boss, finally got to the point where it looked like Kong finally submitted, and said "Bitch, I'm the captain now", before MechaG came in
I don’t know if it was at that point when Kong submitted. He was trying to get up and continue fighting but he couldn’t after Goji stomped on his chest. Goji’s roar seemed more like it was out of annoyance. I took it as him being fed up with Kong interfering with the quest for the real threat. The actual submission was when Kong dropped the axe, imo.
Kong never submitted, that was the whole point of roaring back at Godzilla, he used the last of his energy to refuse to submit. Godzilla just knew he was done despite all his bluster.
This is the first movie that ever made me care about Kong, but I’m very glad Godzilla won the 1v1. Would’ve been too heavy handed to have the audience be on “Kong’s side” from the human framing of their conflict.
That's why I'm surprised Godzilla didn't just kill him since Kong roared back, even though Kong was dying.
This was dumb but a good time. Has anyone brought up the fact that they had reception in the center of the earth/downloaded a rock yet
