I’m not entirely convinced Millie Bobbie Brown is a good actress or maybe this just isn’t a good role for her. I don’t count this as a knock against her acting skills, but she’s always had problems with her accent slipping and when they place her with an actor that can use his native accent, she might as well just be British.
I did have a chuckle at Millie needing to fake the American accent for the role while having a costar who absolutely doesn't lol
It was basically impossible for me to go into this without sky high expectations after like 4 years of build up — have to say, it was worth the wait. This was so much fun. They had a lot to cram in, but I think they did a great job piecing it all together. The human stuff, while cheesy as always, actually felt essential to the plot for pretty much the first time in one of these things. It helped that so much of it was centered around Kong too. Also very happy to have gotten a modern Godzilla joint with fight scenes that aren’t basically in the dark or shrouded in smoke haha. Overall very happy with this.
The mecha line had my rolling my eyes so fucking hard. It was so dumb. It was unnecessary since the big bad literally says it like a scene later.
Really enjoyed this. Going to need to watch it again. I was expecting more fighting, but overall I’m satisfied.
the deaf daughter in A Quiet Place/Part II is also played by a deaf actress, which I thought was really cool when I learned that.
I apologize if this has been said before/beat to death already, but honestly IMO the darkness/shrouded stuff is actually a good idea if done well (such as in G2014), even though in some films the intention is too obvious and backfires by looking like a budget issue. Hiding significant parts of the monsters and more importantly their movements not only increases the suspense and awe and makes humans feel unimportant (rightly so) but also lets your brain/imagination fill in the blanks instead which is better than bombarding you with unnatural CGI that doesn't feel real. All this is also tied to the overall tone of the film, so understandably no one would want a shrouded GvK.
I had a lot of fun with this. Effects were incredible and set up some cool set pieces that these movies need. The writers did the right thing by having the human story serve and support who we came to see: the titans. We don't need a family drama on the ground when there's gigantic chaos going on (sorry KotM). All the stuff with the axe was badass. I loved the alley oop of Godzilla firing up the axe for Kong to smash MechaGodzilla. The partnership was bound to happen but having that be the first act of teamwork was rad. I fell for the girl/Kong connection hook, line, and sinker. Made the viewer feel for Kong, especially with "Your family might be in there" and his excited run into the portal. Overall I give it an 8/10. It gave me exactly what I wanted and did right by the titans.
Why exactly was Godzilla pissed at the beginning? Did he have some kind of Spidey-sense of Apex developing a competitor? Was it just that he didn't want a competitor? How was he able to sense a robot? Any why was Kong needed for the trip down to the center of the planet? And where did the sunlight come from down there?
You nailed it with Godzilla - spidey sense going off. The skull of a former villain was used to create Mecha. I believe it was said by Skarsgaard that they needed a titan to show them where Hollow Earth was.
Didn't they say Godzilla could sense the energy or sense a Titan? Like he did tracking down Kong in the water?
Godzilla could sense Ghidorah right? And the Mecha was utilizing Ghidorah’s telepathic energy? Maybe there’s a hole there but that’s how I rationalized it And I don’t think they needed Kong to get to Hollow Earth, I think they needed Kong to get them to where they needed to go after they got there
I feel like if this film were made at any other time in the last twenty years, Papa Roach would have been playing during one of the fight scenes.
The ghidorah telepathic thing was actually well played. Kinda stupid to see a skull being hooked up like that but I like the idea of the heads being telepathic because the nerves would take too long like a 3 headed giraffe haha. A bit disappointing that MG didn't fight G with a pilot but that's the cost of keeping it below 2 hours. And would step on pacific rim's toes haha
The sunlight in the Hollow Earth trickles down from empty water wells, that's why we still have them in the age of bottled water.
One of the victims of the fall of the music industry is that we no longer get a kick-ass soundtrack with every blockbuster.
I'm sure Papa Roach wouldn't mind their music being put in kick ass scenes like this for nearly nothing.
