Between a quick glance at the profile pic in that tweet and the usual conversation in this thread, I thought that was gonna be a very different image lmao
Several sites have it as Friday, whereas others have it as the 31st. RT right now has it streaming on the 26th
Right I see that on some sites, but some others still have it as the 26th; I'm wondering at what point they bumped it back to the 31st
A month or two ago. Most likely because they want it to have a full week overseas before the US HBO Max release allows for full HD rips.
I know Toho wants to do their own thing, but hopefully Legendary can do one more. Just one final ‘Destroy All Monsters’ film with Destroyah would be a great conclusion. We already have the Oxygen Destroyer in KOTM.
Rewatched 2014 for the first time in full since theaters. It's better than I remember. All the monster scenes are incredibly well executed. As far as the human stuff goes, it's not tedious like I remember. There's some stilted dialogue, particularly in the first third but it's never had me rolling my eyes like KOTM. If the story was reworked to cut 10-15 minutes from the runtime, it would probably be the perfect version of an American Godzilla movie.
Also, and I may be reaching just because they're both Gareth Edwards, I noticed the plot is strangely similar to Rogue One. Prologue where our protagonist's mother dies. In the present day our protagonist is estranged from their father, but then something happens and they have to go find their father... Father dies shortly after that during an explosion in an action sequence (bonus: father dies right after speaking to the protagonist with gasping last words). Then there's some minor in-fighting between the group trying to stop a massive destructive force. Crazy good third act where the plan goes ahead to stop said force, then goes to shit but ultimately works out and ends with a giant mushroom cloud. The only way it could be more similar is if Aaron Taylor Johnson would have died on the boat.
Real bummed this wasn’t streaming yesterday but “you must wait” is pretty on brand for the entire rollout of this movie. Gotta love when they commit to the bit
Watched Godzilla and Skull Island last night to prep for this and I hope this movie avoids trying to make it about the humans and realizes we just want to see Kong and Godzilla.
I don't think there's any doubt that Legendary will continue the MonsterVerse so long as Toho is willing. It's going to make 1/3 of KOTM's entire gross within one week in the Asia/Pacific market. Keep in mind that Japan was the second-largest market for KOTM and they won't receive Godzilla vs Kong until May.
About to watch 2014, Kong: Skull Island, and KotM projected on top of my friend's rooftop. Only seen 2014!
And man some of the absolute on the nose “ecological” and “war” themes are way too on the nose haha it seems like everyone acting in the film was caught in a Tropic Thunder kind of situation without the comedy
I should probably rewatch Skull Island, I remember having fun but thinking it was kinda wack once Hiddleston busted out the Samurai swords and gas mask
Idk you should just stick on moving forward with the franchise. The director is really trying to do something different with the material than the script calls for and it’s a weird mush-mash between genres that doesn’t really work. Peter Jackson’s King Kong still reigns supreme imo the movie really should have been probably another 30-45 minutes longer to let a lot of the scenes breathe and cut other things
