Yeah they need to learn from movies like John Wick or Fury Road that you really only need a bare bones plot to get people invested for what they really want, which is all the intense fighting
The story in Mad Max is incredible though. Like yeah the stunt work is amazing but our relationship with Furiosa and the Wives really puts the whole movie over the top. I don't think we'll see a monster movie thats JUST monsters fighting. I think if they were gonna do one though, this would be the movie for it since kong is monke and we can kinda empathize with him.
Godzilla has always been seen through the perspective of humans. To remove humans, regardless of how poorly written they are, is to remove a corner piece to every Godzilla film in existence. I’d be strongly against it. Good human drama is possible as seen in the 1954, 2014, and 2016 films. It’s just a matter of finding a screen writer, not you Max Borenstein or Michael Daugherty, that is able to manage it. The so-so human plot in this film is forgivable due to it being a crossover film, although I’m glad to hear it’s better than the human plot in KOTM.
I didn’t mean to imply no story, just that you don’t actually need as much time spent on developing the story as many filmmakers may think. You can get the emotional investment conveyed very quickly and easily, like in Fury Road. Instead we often get movies with entire romantic subplots or whatever else that are meant to serve as the emotional investment but only end up bogging the film down
Brian Tyree Henry's joke make a good case for humans existing in this franchise. But pretty much everyone negates it. I just don't understand why everyone has to be so generic.
loved the og cloverfield and just introduced my roommates to it this winter. definitely shows it's age as far as the tech featured, but otherwise is still pretty solid.
The low res didn't help but visually looks worse than I'd hope. I consider getting CGI (esp. Godzilla) right the literally most difficult thing to do in big cinema (the speed of the trailer doesn't help) Also anyone else see Rodan (probably not, just some pterodactyl or smth) in there?
As much as I like Eleven in Stranger Things, seeing Millie Bobby Brown here after KOTM always immediately lowers my expectations haha. Wish it were a different family
Time to avoid YouTube for the next week. CamRips of major scenes are being taken down and reuploaded.
I've resigned myself to watching this at home, super close to my screen cause I'm not getting vaccinated in time, but I'm also super let down cause I didn't realize today was the International Theatrical release, I thought I could watch it on HBO today :/
Speaking of.. Where is this man? Was he black listed after Rogue One, or what? I've been looking forward to seeing or hearing about what he's doing next but he has seemingly disappeared.
