I don’t see show anyone expects a big monkey to beat a radioactive giant lizard that breathes fire. Godzilla is king of the monsters for a reason. Based alpha apex predator
$20 that Godzilla walks/swims away as victor from both the aircraft carrier and Hong Kong battles. Kong is smarter, but not by much considering he thinks it is a good idea to fight Goji.
I’m thinking the opposite; this would have crushed under pre-COVID times. Easy to understand movie, with dope CGI; easy money $$$
Yeah and I have a feeling the hype/meme machine would have been churning too just like it is now. I'm starting to see memes leak into the mainstream
I mean no. That’s not how these movies work? The last one was essentially a flop. The interest was very much diminishing. This probably would have been a huge flop a year ago
Huge doubt. Godzilla and Kong both made more than half a billion. KOTM was plagued by terrible reviews during an already packed early blockbuster season and the hype was gone. The hype for this film seems to be greater than both the 2014 Goji film and Skull Island.
Yeah KOTM made almost 200 million less lol. This movie would not have nearly as much hype if it was strictly theatrical release. The goodwill, or in this case “bad”will usually carries over into the opening of the next movie and really effects it’s box office
I can’t believe some of you are actually admitting you’re rooting for Kong. It’s insane. #teamgodzilla all day everyday.
I love talking box office numbers for movies lol. Idk why I’ve always followed it and found it incredibly interesting which is dumb cause like why do I give a shit about something that costs a bajillion dollars to make ends up making My point kind of got off track lol this movie is going to be batshit and wild and I’m here for Kong
Despite the box office return of KOTM, the public seems to more open and excited seeing Godzilla and Kong together. I think he would have pulled in numbers similar or better than the 2014 Godzilla. When the audience is more interested in a cinematic event then the numbers will bounce back up. Look at age of Ultron for example. It made less than the original Avengers because it didn’t add much else (event scale wise) and it wasn’t as good and less word of mouth to inspire others to see it. Then Infinity War came along, better and more eventful, and the box office went back up. I see that with Godzilla Vs Kong compared to KOTM.
If this was just a typical Godzilla threequal then yeah, but Godzilla and King Kong fighting each other already gathers more interest than Godzilla fighting his own Toho villains.
Yeah these are def good points. It would have been interesting to see regardless. I’m curious if this movie will have “big” (relative, obviously) box office numbers next weekend since it’s a huge blockbuster and a lot of people are vaccinated
I’ll probably still just watch this from the couch, but it’s exciting that cinema seems to be coming back.
