I think for me, GDT did an excellent job when it came to the monster and jaeger designs. There were a lot of bad ass moments. It was another kaiju movie bogged down by human shit I didn't care about, but that's the norm, so whatever. At least Idris was good.
Rewatched Skull Island today. That movie kicks so much ass. It looks gorgeous, Kong is awesome, and the action is fun. John C. Reilly is hilarious, but I also chuckle at how many of the characters are killed off so unceremoniously. Shea Whigham's death scene kills me every time. Gonna rewatch KotM at some point.
That first trailer had me so hyped. Last time I was that let down from a movie after an incredible trailer was Spider-Man 3 I think.
With all this Pacific Rim talk I was thinking last night "I wonder what happened to that anime they were supposed to make?"
I feel like the writers or whoever dont understand that we just want to see monsters fuck shit up. It's why the john wick movies are so good. Little story and keanu fucking people up.
the world they build in john wick is cool though. like I wouldnt mind more about secret assassin hotels and stuff. I dont care that coach taylor is having family problems or that an eco terrorist has some vague agenda. but unfathomably bad? come on man this isnt Tenet
I don't mind the Jonah character just because Charles Dance is the man, but yeah it was so poorly written. Interested to see what they do with that post credits scene
When people post amazing looking screenshots from KotM I have trouble in my head squaring up that such amazing looking images can be found in such a shit awful movie.
Lmao I truly cannot fathom hating this particular movie that much. The story isn't amazing but it has the best cinematography, effects, and fight sequences of any of the three films, easily. It's silly.
I'd give cinematography and effects to Godzilla '14 hands down, and honestly fight sequences too, but that's the only one I can admit is even debatable. But in fairness, I am a HUGE Gareth Edwards fan, and I get the same feeling watching his movies that I do watching Kubrick's films, in regards to the camera-work, framing & cinematography, so I know I am hugely biased. * Edited to add that I happily watched all of Godzilla '14 and Skull Island, and KotM was the only one of the bunch that I ended up shutting off and not even finishing.
The breath down the MUTOs throat is great but tbh the part of 14 that I got literal chills is the first time we see his tail start charging up. I was literally going “oh shit!” when I realized it was happening
Godzilla 14 is the clear best of the three but both Skull Island and KOTM have their positives. I can't say I hated any of them. I like different things about Skull Island and KOTM and I disliked different things about each of them as well. Neither of them are "shit awful" though, that's some big hyperbole there.
