That seems to be the assumption, but since Daryl has always been so open about it, I thought they wouldn't have just used the vague hospitalization reason if it were him. I'm part of the postponed dates, and while it's a disappointment, I'd rather whoever it is be able to get well as the big priority.
If it’s Daryl, and it’s a flare, I can’t imagine doing the shows at the same pace they’ve been doing them these last few years. Especially with that material. As someone with Crohn’s, when I’m having a flare I’m down for the count for awhile. He’s had it pretty dialed in for years (it seems) so if it’s a hospitalization I fear it’s surgery. I have it pretty okay compared to a lot of folks, but the only time I’ve had to be hospitalized is for surgery. (Yes, I know he was hospitalized pretty regularly for awhile in the early 2000’s, but we’ve come a long way since then with meds and biologics) but everyone’s illness is different. Good vibes to him. He was truly the only person I thought about when I was diagnosed. He gave me hope.
Caught the sold out EYEWTKAS show in Austin last night and they sounded fucking great. There were some vocal parts that Daryl opted to not sing, whether it be some expected screams or some lyrics "Suck on the end of this dick that cums lead", for example. Best part was they encored with Our Color Green in it's entirety. Looking forward to W&T tonight even more now
If they play Coloring Book tn after W&T I might have to figure out plane tickets for one of the rescheduled double shows
I saw it being posted on one of the Glassjaw Facebook groups that all of the EYEWTKAS dates will have OCG played in full as the encore, and the W&T dates will have CB played in full as the encore.
Appears they played a bunch of songs from Material Control ln and not Coloring Book. That makes sense, would have been cool but Beck needs basically an entire different rig to play those songs so it probably just wasn't very feasible
Watching back some of the videos from this tour, if it was Daryl in the hospital for a flare up - he’s absolutely killing it. Being able to just stand up for two hours straight is next level nuts. IF that’s what happened. I’m now more motivated to go to the rescheduled dates.
I really want to find a way to get tickets to the LA shows in the fall, would be cool to take part in a Hate5six documented show too.
Saw them last night at Starland, excellent! I'll echo the statement that Daryl really sounds top tier, it's absolutely wild 22 years on he's still this good. Also I enjoyed the little flourishes Beck and Co. added to the instrumentals of songs, seemed like especially for EYEWKAS songs they made them a bit groovier at points. I ended right near the front left side of the stage so I got some great views and shots of them all, and Daryl did a great job using the whole stage and animating. Also picked up my vinyl order. It was a 2 hour drive and I'm 100% glad I did it!
Oh and extra shoutout to Daryl from omitting from singing the really fucked up lines from certain EYEKWAS songs, like the whole bridge to Convectuoso lol
He’s been pretty vocal about the more atrocious lyrics for a long time. I wanna say mid-late 2000’s he was already regretting them. though I’m not sure when he started omitting them altogether.
Oh yea I knew back when Material Control came out he talked about it, it's nice to see he's really sticking with it
They posted a bunch of what appear to be soundboard clips of EYEWTKAS songs on instagram yesterday, wonder if we'll be getting a live release of some sort
