Right? OCG was fucking huge. So much happens in just 21 minutes. Those 5 tracks have more memorable moments than the entirety of MC. With that said, I absolutely dont want to put down anyones opinion of liking MC, because I am happy that they enjoy it that much. I wish I liked it too
Haha I don't think we're going to find much common ground in that case! Aside from Junkies (which was always kinda its own thing anyway), I'd describe OCG as an underdeveloped rough draft of the sound they were going for here. I'm not sure I'll ever have a reason to listen to Jesus Glue or Stars again - song after song on MC takes their core sound and adds actual interesting melodic concepts to it. Farmer is exceptional, though, and IMO would've fit right in here.
I've never been a huge Glassjaw fan, but after one listen this is already my favorite release of theirs.
You take back what you just said about Jesus Glue, youre killing me! lol I said yesterday that the EPs we more of a "heres what we have been toying with lately" and I still stand by that, but I feel like MC is more of a "heres what we through together real quick"
"Junkies" is an all-time hook, yes, but it's different from the rest of OCG and not at all the sound they're going for on MC. Aside from that, if you're talking about Farmer and Lennon, I think there are plenty of worthy competitors on here in the same vein.
I hope you're right, but so far, not hearing it yet. gonna give the album the 5th spin while standing in traffic on the way to rehearsal today, let's see.
You think Junkies wasnt at all the sound they were going for, yet they literally reference it with an entire track on Material Control... Im lost lol
I remember NWE not fulling grabbing me at first, but after a few listens it really clicked. So I'm hoping that happens with the rest of this. Starting my second listen now.
May be too early to call, but I’m gonna go ahead and say there’s not. But that song is a top 3 GJ song for me, so I would’ve been shocked if anything came close. Yep. Personally, I’m coming to this album as someone who’s not as big on W&T as most of the fan base is at this point. I still love it but I loved it a lot more when I was younger... lately I’ve found that there are times where Daryl gets on my nerves on it (one example is that laugh at the end of Pink Roses, just fucking grating to me now but I probably loved it years ago). EYEWTKAS, as I said in that really long post, would hands down be my favorite GJ album if it weren’t for the lyrics, but bc of those I can’t really rank it comfortably in their catalog at all. OCG and CB are great, and if you view them as kind of an album split into two sonically consistent EPs (which I kinda do), I like them more than W&T probably; separate, they’re hard to rank above that record. Idk lol Yep, posted my first listen thoughts earlier.
Ok cool, just wanted to see if you heard and "John Lennon" on MC, but you already answered that above!
I mean isn't Golgotha alone like all the songs on OCG squeezing out a superhuman lovechild? It's so fucking disorienting melodically that I can see it taking a dozen listens to click, though. I've been listening to those stupid flexi rips way too much and had no love for it the first 2-3 listens.
Golgotha is missing something OCG had in spades. Real melody. OCG was not disorienting melodically. Musically I can kinda see where youre coming from, but vocally, not at all. The vocals of Golgotha are so odd, and out of place even on MC. Daryl tried something different, cool, but changing vocal style completely is kinda weird.
