Hard to believe we're listening to the same record. This has more interesting chord progressions, vocal melodies, etc. than anything I can think of in years... Whoever thinks it sucks and also thinks Conscience is clearly the best song - I can totally understand that if you just don't like dissonant Glassjaw. That's fine. But then you must've hated OCG. Because this album does everything OCG did, better, and also does a bunch more interesting stuff on top of it. I can't wrap my head around how someone could love OCG and then find this to be a major disappointment. If you came onboard with CB and think it's far and away their best, then yeah, I'd prepare to hate this.
My initial reaction: It’s not exactly what I was hoping for in a Glassjaw record, but it is exactly what I expected after Shira and NWE and the clips. I think it’s gonna take me a few listens to really have a better handle on my actual feelings on it. It definitely is not as dynamic as some of their other material, and part of that is probably in part due to the production. I do think that there’s more going on here — melodically, structurally, instrumentally — than what first listens might reveal. Pompeii absolutely rips like I thought it would.
I’m so confused- how are people getting this? Did the digital orders get released? I’m waiting till it hits Apple Music since I’m trying to hold off on buying Material till vinyl goes up.
Couldn't wait. Listened in the car and it was actually a better listening experience than I thought it would be. Gotta say, I'm not in love with this after first listen. After "Citizen", most of the tracks start to sound the same. Daryl's vocals are barely in the mix on most songs and while I love the tones on the guitar, it's all hard to distinguish from one another. I love "Strange Hours", in part because it's a breath of fresh air. It's Glassjaw, so I'll listen about 100 more times today, but right now it's not clicking 100% for me.
Are there any good post hardcore albums/bands from the past few years? I feel like there hasn't been much discussion in that genre recently
Fjørt's Kontakt and Coloeur (they're in german, though) I guess that new While She Sleeps record yeah... there's room here. edit: complete forgot about Touché Amoré's Stage Four.
This definitely feels like more of a progression from what they were doing on OCG than anything else.
Damn some of these reactions are bumming me out but I just got it so I am going to give it a full listen before reading any more comments.
After my initial go through, I liked it quite a bit. But I do wish they tightened up the production or maybe it's the mix (I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to recording).
Overall OCG is a more interesting work, and even though it is shorter than MC, it feels more fleshed out. When you compare Jesus Glue, Junkie, and John Lennon to MC, well, its not even close.
AH, I see. I’ll hold off until midnight for Spotify then. Interesting comments on here though. I still have high hopes as comparisons with OCG have been made and that’s fimore than fine by me.
