With the way this album abruptly ended, I kinda which they wouldve sampled Daryl taking a piss during that preview video at the very end haha. That wouldve been amazing.
I feel like we would've been better served if they narrowed it down to 6 songs and worked on them a little more.
also I hope I'm not souring anybody on the album, I hate to be that guy. I'm just not willing to cut a band slack that I've loved for 2 decades and I know have it in them to do better ;) it's still better than The Canyon :P
Gorillaz and Portugal the Man. Funnily enough, all 3 had long waits between albums, or lots of setbacks/delays, and all 3 missed the mark in a big way.
oh ok I'm sorry about that I don't listen to those bands. if you're looking for something to lift your spirit i think Grizzly Bear has knocked it out of the park this year.
I will give it a spin, thanks for the recommendation! Im with you about not wanting to sour anyone on this record, but again, Glassjaw is capable of way more than this. Its almost like they said "we have enough ideas for an album, lets just make it since the fans have been waiting so long". So they did, and then didnt even care enough about it to release it for 2 whole years. And I can kinda see why. Unfortunately, I think this is their swan song, and its definitely not a great way to end it.
half way thru, the dynamics definitely feel flat, but I'm really diggin the album I can see spinning this a lot in the upcoming weeks. Was hoping for a little more Coloring Book style electronicness though
Its funny that the title track references a 7 year old song that is better than any song on Material Control.
The album has been out for a few hours and people are already out here with their premature hot takes huh
It shouldnt take 10 listens to know whether or not you like an album. It has serious flaws that are very very apparent right off the bat.
Im gonna dip out for a bit and do something else. Ill be back later to read more reactions/have more discussion.
