Personally I think it's a shame how Daryl has kept calling himself out after EYEWTKAS. Maybe he got shit over it, I don't know. I wouldn't want anyone to stay that angry for too long but that record is legendary to many hardcore fans. I completely understand how those lyrics would get cringey over the years but then again, it was a clip of that time and place like many bands aim to make. And a true one at that since Daryl, as young and experience lacking as he was, was truly genuinely angry. Audience usually is smart enough to figure out one album doesn't represent you as a whole.
I mean, those were some pretty reprehensible lyrics. I get that it’s a raw expression of anger or w/e, but it’s good that he’s critical. What’s the point of anything if we aren’t trying to constantly improve or be critical of ourselves?
The lyrics weren’t cringy, they were super gross and I’m glad he’s owned up to them and calls himself out on it. I can’t believe we’re only a day away
It's misogynistic depending on how you hear it and there's obviously two ways: 1) "Oh god he screams "Whore" and says a woman eats shit, he must hate women" 2) "Guy was obviously lied to and was pissed about it. Harsh punitive language but that anger was obviously expressed once when needed, and never thrown out there like a life motto. Lots have been there. Hey cool screams!"
I was listening to this album the other day and I was thinking "Man, Vinnie sounds so much like Daryl sometimes". Then I remembered he guested on this song. Haha.
Ves! You've finally made the jump to Chorus! Big fan of the YouTube channel and all your posts on glassjaw.net and now glassjaw.info ! Welcome to chorus! I don't think he beats himself up over the old lyrics, it's like Daryl himself said, he was a child acting like a child. I still bump that record. I don't connect with the lyrics so much, but it's got a lot of passion.
I could care less about lyrics (not just with gj, with every band). For me, it's ALL about delivery and FUCK does Daryl deliver! I can't make out half of his lyrics anyway.
Exactly. Try to think of EYEWTKAS without those lyrics to fuel the rollercoaster that is Daryl's voice on this record. I can't.
