  1. This was fine. Big step down from knives out. Monae and Norton were great.

Kind of agree with the I liked it but slightly disappointed people. I think it was too hyped up in my head. Have to rewatch the first one soon.

also watched this tonight, thought it was alright. first part of the movie was kind of a slog at times but it definitely ramped up from middle point onto the end. obviously not as good as the first one, but I still enjoyed it in its own right.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

feel like I'm missing something obvious here but why did Ed Norton send a box to Andi if he killed her the previous day? how does that make sense

because it would show that he thought she was alive still

  6. The mystery was so obvious and ultimately boring. I'll take more Benoit Blanc films but need some more creativity.

I feel like that's a bit too intelligent for a character that the movie beats over our head is dumb lol. I mean that shows he has the forethought to think several steps ahead and guess a detective would be looking into this

I don’t think the minor measure to establish an alibi is particularly clever. He also had the foresight to make it look like a suicide. If she had been blatantly murdered then he would have been suspect #1 given the publicly

It’s not as good as the first, but I had a good time with this. Great timing on making Elon Musk the dipshit villain of your movie too.

Interesting that the reaction seems to be more mixed from people watching it at home than it was for those who saw it in theaters

I mean, not really. I think it’s easier to get into and enjoy a film when you’re “stuck” watching where you really shouldn’t be on your phone or able to pause it. It sets you up to focus on it more and having a theater of others laughing and enjoying it only steers you towards liking it more.

Not to say someone would like a movie in a theater better all the time, but I think it is one factor to consider.

Edit: that’s why we should always take reactions from premieres with a grain of salt. They basically went to a huge party for the movie and get to see it before everyone else. Hype will affect them. Which is okay. We all get caught up in stuff like that.

Almost as if movies are meant to be seen on the big screen, I can't imagine not having fun with this

I think another factor might be that the people who see it in theaters are probably more likely to be pre-invested in it and respond favorably to it, whereas those who are seeing it at home are more likely to be watching it passively or for something to do.

I'm prepared to be very wrong, but at first thought, this seems logical.

Makes sense to me. While not everyone had a chance to see this in theaters, some did and likely chose to wait for Netflix. Which is fine. But would likely be someone who was not as hyped for it and not be as set to really dig in to it.

I saw it in theaters in a fairly full house and was excited for it, and my reaction was still pretty mixed. ‘Twas fun, with some good highlights, but I’m already starting to forget about it.

I probably would have enjoyed this more either a big crowd, but it’s flaws would still have been apparent.

I share a lot of the same criticisms offered in the thread. The opening was kind of a slog until Helen breaks the box. I found most of the cameos more distracting than fun. And while the movie definitely gets better post-Helen reveal, that twist does feel a little cheap. There are definitely clues in hindsight (Helen being the only one to break the box, her hair is noticeably different in that first scene, Miles being very very surprised to see her), but most of those could also be explained by her being cut out during the trial. That being said, I much preferred the story from her point of view so I’m glad the twist happened, I just wish it had been structured in a way to get there earlier.

There are still some wonderful moments before the Helen twist though. Blanc ruining the game, Miles bs disruptor speech being ruing by Helen, and the scene where Bautista dies was possibly my favorite. I loved how Rian built tension there. The ending explanation of it being the dumbest crime was also great, but after that the ending fell a little flat.

The Mona Lisa payoff made my eyes roll a little. I think it would have been stronger if the rest of the group didn’t actually turn on Miles after that too. They weren’t really a group who needed any sort of redemption. I’m pretty sure all of them would be charged with perjury if the admit they saw the original napkin and it wasn’t written by Miles.

In the end, I think what’s different for me is this is the first Rian Johnson film that doesn’t feel like it brings anything new or fresh to the genre it’s working in. Not that that should be a requirement, but it’s sort of something I’ve come to expect with his work.

I agree the beginning is the weakest section of the film. I liked the twists and reveals. It worked for me.

I took the others turning on him less as redemption and more that they finally had an opportunity to strike back at him for all he has done to them. There wasn’t redemption to me, but I can see how some May see their turning in that way.

I think it’s definitely them cutting ties with him while they have the opportunity too, it felt just seemed to have a hint of “look they did the right thing!” Contrast that with the ending of KO where the Thrombey characters all get their comeuppance in the end. It could have used a little if that.

I do want to reiterate that I did enjoy this. It’s a worthwhile sequel. It would have been hard to top Knives Out.

Have a lot of thoughts about this but yeah ultimately really enjoyed it. Definitely a step down from KO. The cameos were very hit and miss. The Serena one was when I rolled my eyes.
