Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (Rian Johnson, November 23, 2022) Movie • Page 17

  1. Norton is supposedly known for being an asshole to work with? Is that still true? Maybe he's changed, since he's in an ensemble of some arguably bigger stars

  2. I love how pissed Blanc was at the pineapple juice

That was during his Hulk days, so maybe not? No one’s really said anything since iirc. And also, he’s not trying to be a big movie star like he was back then.

This was a lot of fun. Monáe, in particular, was excellent.

This was great. I think I could watch ten more of these at this quality which I've never said for a film franchise. It's just the perfect balance of fun and smart.

I will say, I watched Knives Out right before and the screenplay is so near-perfect it made Glass Onion's flaws a bit more apparent at the outset. But if it's a lesser film, it's sort of miracle how close it gets to Knives Out.

glad Benoit was immediately like how the fuck do you guys all know each other this makes no sense, still no explanation about how Jackie Hoffman can birth Dave Bautista
the covid stuff didn't bother me except you know Lionel would somehow have made the first vaccine, I also was like at some point the recurring bit of ways Birdie canceled herself has to stop being funny but no great every time
the best cameo was obviously Yo Yo Mathere was definitely a lot of window dressing but I don't mind spending time with this cast
It would have been nice to have Marta back but I like the idea that Benoit just keeps collecting people who want or need his help

This was a blast. Not as good as the first but still such a fun movie.

World famous detective Benoit Blanc gets a visit from none other than…Henry Kissinger?!?!

this was pretty good. definitely struggled with the first half hour or so, I felt like it was straight up soporific pacing when they first all met by the boat. everything after the lights went out was excellent and Monae killed it. tough call to live up to the first though

More I sit on this, I think my issue is it felt more … cartoonish?

I was thinking about this a lot because I was at a vaguely underwhelming concert lol. I think really my biggest gripe is so much stuff felt unnecessary, like the fairly jarring celebrity cameos and the instantly dated/terrible Among Us part. so much stuff that didn't really serve the story and will probably age not great

the bones of this movie are still good and it's a lot of fun. but the first film was literally all killer no filler, there's not a second of it that isn't necessary. this movie feels so lumpy in comparison

Another issue I had is I can't imagine the main group of friends actually being friends

The cameos and references worked for me because the movie was trying to be set in a specific time with the Covid stuff. I don’t think there will be many movies set in 2020 and I like the choice for this one to be so of the time it was filmed/written. Plus it’s just exciting as someone who loves Rian Johnson’s films to see all the people who want to be a part of them, even in small cameos.

this isn't bothering me all that much, I think the point is made that they're all only really in it for their own self interest and haven't been real friends in years

that being said it was not an easy group to root for lol and pretty underwhelming use of some great actors. I especially wish Jessica Henwick had more like 5 lines, she absolutely rules

also, Birdie basically wearing the lana del rey mesh mask was absolutely on point lol

it made sense that they would all pretty much ignore Jessica Henwick and and Madelyn Cline because they thought just being an assistant or a partner makes them lesser

I will eat my hat if this is true lol. Right when covid happened I could see countless dumbass film executives thinking how clever they would be for making movies set in 2020

i would say there was that anne hathaway movie set in 2020 but HBO hard deleted it so it doesn't exist

I have seen a handful of movies that you wouldn't expect in the last 2 years that have in some way acknowledged COVID's existence at some point without actually being about it - (Drive My Car, The Worst Person in the World, Three Thousand Years of Longing, Kimi).

All of those mentioned do it gracefully enough where its not a big deal. However, those are the exceptions not the rule. I can imagine more disasters will be come to fruition in the coming years (like The Bubble)

The Lockdown is absolutely a family comedy that's coming to a theater near you in hell sometime in the future. I can't see that not happening.
