The first 2/3 of this movie was fine. Nothing amazing, but fine. But man, I hated the final act so much.

I think I will forget I saw this movie in 5 years. Then someone will remind me of CGI Ramis and I will get mad.

This movie is well-intentioned and looks great, but man is it boring as hell.

So I watched this today, and maybe it's because I'm not as attached to the original movies and frankly don't remember the films beyond broad strokes, but I really enjoyed this, and felt it actually had less fanservice than I thought it would based on people's complaints.

The Ramis thing didn't bother me too much and I felt it was both tastefully done and also thematically appropriate, since they basically established the importance of his presence from the beginning. It gave closure to Coon's character arc.

I also get why they chose to reuse Gozer from the first film. They're trying to basically re-establish the franchise, so it makes sense to use a familiar nemesis to get the concepts fresh in people's minds before moving on to presumably new territory in what follows.

The only part that made me roll my eyes a little is that they redid the "are you a god" bit, but Bill Murray's delivery in the response made it worthwhile.

Really enjoyed the performances from the newbies. McKenna was great, Rudd was Rudd, Coon was channeling her Leftovers snark. I'm glad they chose to limit how much they used the old cast and let the movie revolve around the newbies.

That said, I thought the bits with the old crew, while limited, were done respectfully. I thought the scene where Phoebe talks to Ray on the phone was well done, even if it was expository, and the post-credits scene with Winston was very touching.

The one thing that does bother me is the very brief and wasted use of JK Simmons as Ivo Shandor. That felt like something only put in the movie to check off a list. It added nothing to the movie and had no impact on the events of the film. I'm not even really sure why they felt that was necessary.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. In a side story, when I went to see this, the projector was broken in the showing I went to, so they had to move everyone over from that showing to the next one. Since people choose their seats when they buy their ticket, that meant pretty much that everyone from the first showing took the seats from the people in the second showing. Pretty awesome.

    Die rad.

I have been a huge GB fan since the origianl (showing my age here) and I agree with this. I dont understand why so many people have a problem with this. Its called GHOSTbusters for god sakes, and Reitman ran it by his family and original cast first. It was done in great taste.

I get why people would be bothered by it. I'm not going to say it wasn't a little weird. The scenes of all four original Ghostbusters next to each other while Winston stares at Egon's ghost like it's the scariest thing he's ever seen; took me out of the movie a little bit with how weird it was.

But, I understand why they felt they needed to do it and as I said above, the scenes with Egon and the family were very sweet and I felt that made it worth it. Also, when the "For Harold" came up on screen, a lot of people in the theater clapped.

I do agree that as long as they got permission from the estate and the people involved, then I'm cool with it. I mean, without knowing if it's what Ramis would've wanted, seeing as how he was trying to get a Ghostbusters 3 off the ground for forever, it feels like the right thing to have done.

I'm of the blanket mindset of letting dead people stay dead. I didn't need to see Tarkin or Leia in Rogue One or the Colonel breakdancing in a KFC commercial. Regardless of how the estate feels, it always feels manipulative. And the fact that they made an action figure out of him feels gross.

Like the RLM people said, you could have easily shown a hand guiding Phoebe's proton cannon thing and still have the same reaction. I don't need to see weepy Bill Murray looking over at CGI Ramis, knowing he stonewalled him for decades because he's an asshole.

I think having the full person and that embrace at the end was important for Callie's arc. You could argue that the scene in the lab with the pictures was enough, but I felt like it gave better closure.

(shrugs) Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Personally, I think as long as his family is fine with it, then I'm fine with it. Apparently his oldest daughter even helped with the design.

  17. I don’t need another film. If they do make it into a new series, please plot out the overall story arc.

Finally got a day off to go see the movie yesterday. I enjoyed it well enough although it wasn’t really spectacular. It’s in the same vein of Ghostbusters 2 to me. Not necessarily the tone and feel of that, but the overall execution. It’s entertaining enough and has some fun moments, but if you critique the movie as a whole you can really find some lazy decisions and plot holes.

But it’s got some stuff I really enjoyed. I loved pretty much all the Muncher scenes. The chase through town in the Ecto-1 was well done.

I liked the overall look of the movie. I guess the cinematography? Whatever you wanna call it. The producers and Reitman did a good job with the slashed budget and came up with a movie that was 10x more aesthetically pleasing than whatever Paul Feig was going for.

Phoebe was great and I liked the Podcast kid. Paul Rudd was awesome. I loved the science nerds basically. Didn’t really feel anything towards Wolfard and the sheriff’s daughter, their characters needed more work.

I was hoping the cameos were done better. Less cameo-like and more of an actual role in the story would have been nice. Didn’t feel like a “passing of the torch”. It was more like some kids found the torch and the old guys show up and say “Hey. Don’t forget about us” at the end. I don’t mind the nostalgia bits, I just wish they were done better and seemed less forced.

I’m on the fence whether or not there should be another movie. It feels like probably not, but I’d definitely check it out if it were to happen.

I do wish there had been another scene or something to bridge the gap between Pheobe's call to Ray being cut short and the whole damn old crew showing up to help save the day. Something to make a cleaner transition.

Like maybe cut to Ray again, have him maybe hear or find something, show him making a call but don't reveal who. Anything to give better buildup.

Yeah, I would have liked to see some interaction between the kids and the original guys before the finale. When this movie was being developed I was thinking the OG's would work in a mentoring role and kind of go over a few things with the newbies. That obviously didn't happen. It was like they just fell from the sky in the middle of a Gozer battle.

Also, my sister called me up after she saw the movie and we had a discussion about a few things that seemed off. The main one being is that there is no way in a million years the other ghostbusters (Ray Stantz in particular) would refuse to believe Egon's concerns about Shandor/Gozer in Oklahoma. Ray would have been fully onboard with Egon's plan. And this is based on their relationship in the first two movies and throughout the Real Ghostbusters series. Ray was always Egon's right hand man in all of his whacky experiments and theories. I wish they would have given a different reason for their falling out.

Their return at the end was incredibly abrupt and there should have been a few more scenes with them reconnecting before heading out. Cut that god awful gold dress scene and some lame Easter egg scenes and have that instead.

Saw this in the theater today and was a great movie to see as the first movie back since COVID. Totally absurd at parts but I enjoyed it. It was like Goonies meets Ghostbusters. Solid 2 hours of just mindless fun.

Saw it tonight. I thought the start was a little iffy but by the time Paul Rudd was introduced I was having a lot of fun. Ended up really enjoying this

I actually think the original cast was used perfectly. Usually I'm very opposed to digitally adding deceased actors into stuff but the way this was done was actually really tasteful imo. I think Ramis would have approved 100%, he'd been trying to get some form of Ghostbusters 3 made for decades. I thought the ending was actually really beautiful
