This movie still gets to me... makes me think about the situations I've been tokenized and its always difficult to confront that aspect of my experience.

I don't think this will age well though. Having a blind man symbolically represent the racist ignorance of white folk is ableist. Specifically that he perceives he's not participating in the racism behind the coagula project because he only wants his sight restored. The critique itself is accurate, "I don't see race" is something white people say who absolutely participate in racist institutions to their benefit without being overtly racist. However, portraying blind people as covetous of sight and being willing to go as far as killing others for it is gross.

I remember seeing "from the mind of Jordan Peele" in the trailer as a huge Key & Peele fan and thinking, "The heck? Jordan Peele doing a horror movie? Man, this actually looks pretty good."

Never imagined he'd win an Oscar and it'd be one of the most influential films of the 2010's.

  16. Yeah, I remember seeing the trailer and thinking I wanted to catch it in theaters for my birthday. Had no idea it would become a phenomenon. So glad it did.

I would've voted for it to return to theaters a third time if I could.
