It’s a smart move. Number of pro-Israel people greatly outnumber the number of pro-Palestine people in NYC.

So yes, I heavily disagree with Yang’s views on this situation and I think he really should keep his mouth closed on most opinions. But I have never desperately needed a politician to win more in my life. To prove that an Asian person can gain as much power has mediocre white men have for centuries. And thus make me look more white by proxy. I have always done things the white way to gain more social capital and it has always benefitted me with clout, money and power.

Up until the 4th grade, I understood race as literally black or white. If you weren't black, you were considered white. So for the first 10 years of my life I genuinely believed that society saw me as white simply because I was not black. The way they taught racism was about slavery, Civil Rights, etc., not a peep about historical anti-Asian racism, so there were no indicators until then that I was not considered white.

For all intents and purposes, I have lived as white a life as I can. All of my closest friends are white, all of my romantic relationships have only ever been white, and all of my hobbies are also very white. I was able to elevate myself throughout adolescence and adulthood by boasting about how white I am, and people who were actually born white saw the effort I put in and only ever rewarded me for being white. I also benefited by how I openly chastised the Asian peers who matched their stereotypes, and the juxtaposition elevated my social profile.

Embarrassing.
