I was speculating with a buddy on what kind of weird porn these guys will be outed to enjoy.

Counterpoint: if smart people struggle with groking it maybe we need to do a better job explaining and not mocking. I know lots of people that have never heard of or don't believe it to begin with.

I don't know what "groking" means. But, that being said, it isn't that he failed to understand it, because it has a fairly straight-forward explanation. He just saw the phrase and never bothered looking into it. I mean, it has a wikipedia entry and various organizations have laid out the thesis of the concept, both in print and it community settings.
