Hunchback of Notre Dame is not an appropriate movie for kids. Frollo basically talks about like...eliminating all the gypsys? And he wants to rape Esmeralda?
plus his treatment of Quasimodo is ableist I feel like a lot of them have problematic themes, Ariel literally gives up her voice to win over some guy she just met
Ranking them is tough. Maybe something like 1 - Mulan 2 - Beauty and The Beast (best music) 3 - The Little Mermaid 4 - Pocahontas 5 - Aladdin If we count the more recent ones, The Princess and the Frog and Tangled are up there
The guy who wrote the book, Victor Hugo, also wrote Les Miserables. His stuff is dire and depressing. So yeah, it's not for kids. Disney really dumbed it down as much as possible to make it accessible even though it was still probably the most depressing and dark Disney movie I had watched at the time.
Beauty and the Beast is technically beastiality. We know they do boom boom before he turns back into a prince or altleast I think so. They kiss and stuff. Esmerelda was like 16. Gross.
Pinnochio is where it's at. Ya got your hip, lovable, fuck up, with a pervy streak (Jiminy Cricket), two faced "friends" that are just itching to sell you out (honest John and Gideon), the wildly self destructive idiot buddy that pressures you into stuff (Lampwick), the exploitative kidnapper (Stromboli), the straight up slave trader (Coachman), a couple of nice animals (Cleo and Figaro), a chronically lonely carpenter who seems nice (Gepetto), a whale with the disposition of a demon (Monstro), and a nice lady to make everything OK again (unnamed blue fairy). I used to watch it multiple times a day between the ages of 4 and 6.....I wonder why I've always had a somewhat dim view of humanity, haha.
I LOOOOOVED The Aristocats!!! I also loved Oliver & Company and remember getting toys from like McDonalds or something and playing with them alllll the time.
My pictures are boxed up but I was blonde for a year or so. We bleached half to bright white and half to black and my costume for Halloween was almost identical to this: I got everything from good will for cheap then afterwards I dyed all of my hair black.
