The way grown adults acted when you'd draw their blood was fascinating.

I clench my eyes shut, look the other way, and start shaking. I can't watch needles penetrate skin

TB test, cbc- checks red/white blood cells/anemia/cancer/blood disorders, hemoglobin, metabolic panel - checks almost all organ function, HIV, good and bad cholesterol and men get prostate labs, and PT which is about blood coagulation. I think that's it.

Since I work in the lab we can technically check whatever we want on ourselves. This past year I was bet 20 bucks that I couldn't draw my own blood and I did it. BOOM.

I also don't like needles or getting blood drawn, if someone injects themselves with a needle in a movie I have to look the other way

I've definitely experienced your kind lol I've had people pass out with the needle in their arm too. Pregnant women always had to get the most done and were especially difficult. And biker dudes with full sleeves always were a chore haha.

My I had blood taken for the first time with the Army, the guy saw me looking the other way and then waved the tubes in my face afterward.

I made my mom cry with fear because I was practicing for my phlebotomy test and sat at the kitchen table and drew my own blood lol.

By doing that, you're one of the most terrifying people in the world for that moment lol.

I once passed out during an assembly in middle school about like, fundraising for leukemia or something

I deal mainly with kids and psych patients when phlebs can't hit a vein. There is this one lady who is addicted to painkillers and on dialysis. I had to stick her in the foot once and the jugular once. That was special.

Medics are real assholes. They know their shit so they are going to fuck with you for no reason. Any chance they got, they'd either stab you with a needle in a spot they knew would hurt or stick a tube up your nasal cavity.

I have obese people veins so I get stucK ALOT even when I tell them where to stick me.

Phlebotomy was sad tho. Pregnant women would come in for pregnancy blood work because they planned a baby with someone. Others had accidents but it was okay. But then pregnant 16 year olds would come in talking about if they have another kid they'll get this certain government help. Others come in crying because their husbands cheated on them and they're testing for STD's. Holding their five year old kids hand crying and shit.

And then just old people about to die trying to stay as healthy as they can.

Also doing blood work on new born babies was so sad because you'd stick them, and they'd do that cry where no sound comes out at first and then start screaming and their moms are crying too because the baby is hurt. Was not a job I was cut out for lol

I used to be a medical courier so I'd pick up blood draws and urine and stuff. People get really weird with that sort of stuff. This poor kid one time was straight up sick after a draw. It took him like 45 minutes to get out of the chair.

Yeah it was awful. I did the internship for a couple months and then quit and pursued other shit because I didn't think it was worth it. Plus it gets dangerous sometimes because some current addicts can get tense quick when you poke them with the needle.

I feel really bad when illegal immigrants come in for pregnancy stuff and their scared of getting into trouble. I am not bilingual and I try to tell them on their glucose tests they have to be back at a certain time and they never show up.

I had a girl tell me her brother molested her and both her babies are by him and as soon as she had the 2nd baby cps was gonna take it from her like the 1st one.

My fave guy though is a 32 year old man waiting on a heart transplant and he comes in every Monday. He's so funny and positive. I kinda have a crush. He's very cute but married.

    Sorry for rambling haha

Haha used to say this to people all the time. Mostly men and old women have thick veins that are easy to get on one try.

Yeah some of that shit is just so sad. Had similar experiences with positive people who are facing dire situations but couldn't be happier. It was always sad when regulars stopped coming in because they passed away.

The most annoying thing is sticking people who are used to getting stuck a lot bc their veins are crap so then they'll only let you draw their blood when you get it first stick. I get called to NICU and Mother/baby almost everyday and it's a pain in the ass. Newborns are the easiest sticks for me and I suck at heelsticks so I always go stick them.

The worst is when someone tells me they have rolling veins or small veins or that I won't be able to hit the vein and I'm like can you just let me do my job. Then they're like the easiest stick on the planet. I look young and people yell and scream sometimes when I stick bc they don't think I'm old enough to be any good. It's ridiculous lol

I'll stop now I could go on and on.
