I don't speak about politics on Facebook or with any family members. Makes me hypocritical and part of the problem but I also don't want to deal with any of that

 

Yeah there's a lot of new movements of Feminist Mormonism and Democrat Mormons that actually do good work. Sadly the Church gets wind of it and then excommunicates them for having progressive ideals/lobbying for women to get the Priesthood too.

I've worked in politics most of my adult life so far, so when I'm off work and around friends and family I try to discuss it as little as possible. Too burnt out.

 

I might be out of line but you are not absolved of being a terrible person just because you are POC. Maybe I would understand if these people she goes after (excluding Iggy Azalea) were being assholes to her but for the most part I just see someone who is trying to tear people down.

 

My life was a lot better before I read anything about this Azelia Banks stuff.

 

One thing that sucks is the uncle I liked so much growing up because he was nice to me and played guitar? Turns out he's probably the biggest bigot in my family. He went to see Phil Robertson speak on Easter and on Mother's Day he was going off about Muslims

 

I know it's bad but every time Azealia Banks' nonsense is brought up, part of me wants to chime in "but her music is really good"

 

same, I am too insecure and easily frustrated to educate people

 

I'm not calling for absolution based on the principal that someone is a person of color, simply that I don't feel comfortable trashing them or their appearance as a white dude. In addition, I don't really see any help in a million white men chastising a woman of color when people of the marginalized group being attacked are silenced by the onslaught of loud voices

 

I should also note that my posts on the topic aren't meant to silence or stop any sort of criticism of Banks, she deserves the criticism she gets and has made some awful, awful comments. Just go about it the right way!

 

Here some food for thought. What environment is he from? A very white or rural area? Probably never met many Muslim people. So for the past 15 years all he sees on the news is Muslim extremist committing atrocities. You can't help but think they are bad if that's all your experience is.

I can tell you my view on Muslims/Middle Easterners changed drastically from when I was growing up than when I was in the army and worked with them and helped them.

 

I grew up in the whitest of white neighborhoods and none of us turned out racist.

Naw in general, I posted in here based off of Twitter reactions and didn't want to make it seem like I was calling out people in the thread. Looking back on my initial posts it could be viewed that way

Yeah he lives in a very rural area where everyone is either white or Mexican and has probably never met a Muslim. Although there is still a pretty ugly divide between the white and Mexican communities there.
