honestly i find bill burr funnier when he's just talking on shows and podcasts. his stand up is alright but he's funnier when he's just being stupid lol I think louis c.k. is better when it comes to stand up.

 

Yea I agree, he`s good at making the situations funny while inducing a shock factor.

 

That`s a valid point. For me I think he`s equally funny in both situations:)

 

I like Bill Burr in podcasts and interviews. I don't like Louis CK's stand up at all. I actually think his acting is better even if he's playing a fictional version of himself.

 

Fair point. I just think he`s so good at taking everyday ordinary situations and making the funniest jokes out of them.

But that doesn't mean he's not good at standup

 

I mean Dane Cook is great at standup regardless of the fact that he's not funny

It definitely is a skill completely separate from humor, humor just helps

I'm not a huge Bill Burr fan but his bit on Donald Sterling is incredible.

Ah. So you're analyzing both content and technical skills when it comes to stand up.

 

Yup exactly, like the humor will always be opinion but a person who I don't find funny can have great delivery and presence and execution and I can recognize that it makes the person "good at comedy" since there are a LOT of very funny people who can't do what that person may do

For example I think I write great jokes and a lot of others I perform with think I do too...but I'm extremely average at standup

 

I've never seen bill burr stand up.

the only stand up I've seen is George Lopez, Donald Glover and Aziz Ansari.

 

I dunno, I can listen to just the audio of a bunch of standup and it's still hilarious to me because they're great writers. I could probably just straight up read it and think it's funny. The actual performance part only adds to it. So yeah, it plays a part, but not a huge part...at least not for me.

If the jokes are there but you have like, zero confidence on stage, then yeah, it's probably not gonna be funny.

 

I feel like the ultimate test is having someone write standup on a sheet of paper and having someone else who has never seen the person perform read it out loud

That's where the difference becomes extremely apparent

 

Delivery is insanely important

 

And it's probably also part of why I'm not big on Bill Burr

I don't like very many loud delivery comedians haha, there are exceptions but it's just difficult for me to personally enjoy even though I know he's good at it

 

Yeah i'd say anger based comedy could be a niche thing. I love it. The angrier the better. I can relate to it big time haha.

That too haha, which is weird because I love Birbiglia (Boston comedian) but dislike Burr (also Boston comedian) but yeah Birbigs doesn't have that same Boston aura in his stuff
