i think we as a site need to establish if we are going to focus on album threads (a la General forum in ap) or artists (like in the music forum there) because it's gonna get redundant to have two concurrent threads for like, Kanye and also The life of pablo.

 

Feign a head injury and pretend to forget all you know about hi-tech analyzers.

BOOM, problem solved.

 

I like artist threads more than album threads personally, feels like having the two divides conversation needlessly.

 

I needed this laugh after the day I've had.

 

I don't think so at all. I think for artists with larger bodies of work, having both is fine and will possibly (hopefully) prevent having every thread turn into a ranking festival.

 

Hmmm I wonder what everyone would prefer, I guess it doesn't really matter

 

I say this to my wife (@kaylasananjou) any time she even indirectly references California. If she's annoyed by it, I thoroughly appreciate her not saying it haha

 

At first yes, but an artist thread lets you talk about an older release of theirs or the artist in general. Meanwhile you don't want 200 posts of "I can't wait for this" in that band's thread in he run up to every album

 

Yeah I guess for artists that aren't around or active as much there's no reason why there shouldn't be a general artist thread and then there can be album threads to get more specific with the discussion

i just think its gonna divvy up conversation to have them both. newbies come and dont know where to discuss one (do they discuss tlop in kanye general or the album thread? does the general thread act as everything *but* tlop?)

 

It's pretty obvious you'd discuss tlop in the album thread no? Who would be thrown off by that?

 

I think you're putting too much thought into it haha. I basically agree with everything @cshadows2887 has said about it so far.

 

I think the key is people have to be proactive about making artist threads. A big issue in the last 3 or 4 years on ap was people only making album threads and it leaves nowhere for discussion. Then there's all kinds of discussion of singles and tours and EPs for Charli XCX in the sucker thread because there's nowhere else

if there's a kanye thread too? people still show up on ap posting about the album or looking for info in the music forum thread or something when its all available in the album thread. having them both in the same forum will just compound it imo. then how does someone decide if it should be a general artist thread vs album? like i posted futures set in the evol thread but theres technically a future thread.

 

would be solved by links to album threads on the artist threads, no?

 

It really doesn't seem that difficult to me dude. If you wanna talk about the album, you post in the album thread. It doesn't have to be strictly followed but there's not much harm in both existing

 

i never saw this as an issue i just think its redundant to have an album thread if the focus is gonna be the general artist thread personally, because for instance in the xcx example, the album thread basically becomes the artist thread until a new full length is announced.

I don't know. Maybe I'm alone on it but it was always really discouraging to me. I'd get into an artist and never know where to post about them or what to bump or ask for where to go next because it was just all old album threads
