I wish... nah these are just my final projects for the quarter. I'm in my third year, but I fucked around too much my freshman year and basically didn't take it as seriously as I should have, so I might have to stretch slightly into a fifth year even with all the catching up I've been doing. But I guess when you factor in my learning disability, social anxiety, etc. I could've done a lot worse.

  6. Ahhh, gotcha. My fuck around year was my sophomore year, hah. It ended up with a very mad mother and me pushing a year and a half into 8 months. Turns out "but mom I just wanna make a website about punk music" wasn't really that convincing.

And definitely! Seriously, I wish someone had told me to take my time a little more. That it'll workout in time and that the next 10 years really are ... long. Like, the rush is not needed, it'll come, you'll figure it out, and if it's at 26-29 no one cares at all. I'm gonna turn ... oh god 33 .. in a couple weeks and I wish someone had just let me know at 23 that a lot happens in the next 10 years and not to rush it or worry too much. I was too worried and rushed to start it all — career, relationship, all of it — I thought that diving in was what I was supposed to do and focused on going through the motions instead of really focusing and being in the moment.

    /kinda old guy two cents.

I've dropped out of college twice. I have lots of respect for anyone who sticks with it, no matter how long it takes

Thank you, the pointers are very much appreciated! I think for some like myself on the autism spectrum (normally wouldn't get this personal but fuck it, we're all friends here imo), the challenge comes from focusing on being in the moment, while still not getting too hung up and obsessed on the small stuff, and being able to appreciate the big picture. There are so many times when I've messed up and beaten myself up over it, only to realize it was such a small moment in the grand scheme of things, and a learning experience more than anything else.

Granted, being a music major kind of set me up for a unique experience than someone studying an academic subject, but my second attempt was for a basic liberal arts degree and man, college is just not for me. I didn't realize how much I clashed with the American education system until I really had a choice about whether I actually wanted to be part of it or not.

Honestly there were times, particularly in the first year when my roommate was being a total jackass and I just wasn't feeling like I could stand one more minute living with that person, when I thought I was gonna drop out... looking back I'm very glad my parents (not knowing the full picture in some cases) pushed me so much to keep going. I learned a lot, even from the shitty moments.

Sorry if you already said this and I missed it, but what's your major? I'm lucky enough to have really supportive and understanding parents who've really taken the leap of faith with me and understood that you don't need a degree to be a successful musician.

My mom pushed me really hard to go to medical school which I could have but I knew that wasn't what I wanted to do. My dad noticed and had a talk with me and I told him how much I love science and he said change your major tomorrow, I'll talk to your mom. She wasn't happy but she dealt with it.

English/creative writing! My parents were totally supportive of me majoring in what I want which has been great... I think otherwise I wouldn't have stuck it out. I've learned a ton from my major classes and overall I'd say I've had a pretty good college experience.

I totally understand that. Been there, done that. Heh. I think finding out how to forgive yourself is really important in your 20s. We all make mistakes, we're learning, we're trying to better people, do better at this whole life thing, and it's never going to be perfect — never going to all fit into the grand puzzle of your imagination — and it's really easy to let it all get frustrating and overwhelming. Been there. Many, many times. I come back to cliche sayings a lot, but one I've always liked is, "it can't eat you." Like when something feels too big, or too hard, I repeat that to myself — no matter what it is, it's not eating me, I'll make through some way. And to try and not get too tied up in my emotional perception of my mistakes, or life, but instead to look at things through a different lens. Meditation and reading a lot about stoicism and buddhism really helped me try and find the right path or at least have something to turn back to when I need it on that journey.

At tonight's Foxing show apparently someone was shouting "dick sucking" comments and then broke the lead singer's nose? Pretty fucked up that this is happening right of the heels of the "Night Channels" video. Ugh.
