Oh yeah Bowie too, and I think I'm Up was this year as well can't remember. EVOL is definitely top of my list so far, spending most of this year catching up on last year though haha.

I keep returning to EVOL cause I play it a lot in the gym which I try to go to 4-5 times a week. So it's kinda unfair to everything else I've listened too.

Just went through the 2016 albums thread and it looks like I've heard 7: Rihanna, Future, Kanye, Kendrick, Dunes, Memoryhouse, and Bloc Party. So that's more than I expected.

Sufjan was far and away my favorite of last year. Completely changed my idea about not immediately crowing an album one of your favorites or whatever dumb shit I used to say. Idk if there was ever an album that fit so perfectly into what I was going through at a specific time or place. Still spin it regularly and it hurts every time.

808s III has ended up being my favorite. Pretty much same scenario of it encapsulating a moment and set of emotions perfectly for me.

I still do stand by the idea that crowning every decent hip hop record to come out as a "classic" is a bit problematic and bordering on cultural tourism but if a person deeply connects to a work, let em connect!

I think this brings up another point that I've been grappling with, specifically my position as a white hip hop fan, but that's super complex and deserves its own thread or something.

I saw mention of some sort of "heavy topic" space, or something along those lines. Has that been created yet? I think a conversation about whiteness in regards to consuming/writing about hip hop would be something worth talking about.

Yeah this is a thread I'd like to follow. Definitely something I've been thinking a lot about the more I listen to hip hop

I don't think it's been made yet but the group here now is pretty levelheaded and after that space is made we could have it moved or something, I don't know. Would be very interesting and enlightening though.

  15. Yeah, on posts there is a banner priority that goes staff, moderator, supporter, prestigious. Since that's set once I don't have to hit the database with each post to look what a user has selected as their "flair," it just already knows how to display, which is easier on the server. I may change that at some point, but for now I thought it was the best solution.

  16. Not yet, there's a music article discussion thread in the music forum for specific articles — and there's a racism thread in the politics forum — but I'm not sure that would fit well in either. I've been bouncing around a few ideas in my head about things like this and am not sure where I land. I've thought about a specific sub-forum that would be specifically set up for the "difficult debates" — a place to talk about sexism in the music scene and things like this where people knew if they were part of that thread what it would be about, to avoid say a thread about women in music also being a thread about people being assholes to women in music.

There's also the idea of using the politics forum, and maybe a specific prefix?, and having basically a more difficult version of the "question of the day/week" that we're doing in some of the other forums. Pose this hard question, make a case, and actually debate it throughout the week. Similar to like this one in the entertainment forum: How much stock do you invest in reviews? • forum.chorus.fm, and I'd imagine there will be similar things we could do in music, sports, etc.

Ya I think it needs its own space as it's a complex topic close to a lot of people on here. Certainly something to be discussed with nuance

Just finished reading a review of Batman v. Superman. My suspicions of it being terrible seem to have been correct.
