Just a two-hour plane ride. Visiting them and my sister will hopefully allow me to just relax and not have to think about reality for a little while. Every so often I feel overwhelmed and I guess today is that day for whatever reason, lol.

Do any of you dread going to Christmas/holiday get togethers? I love hanging with my family but my husbands family is a whole different story. I'm already mentally preparing and getting a ton of anxiety. Plus the few people I actually like aren't going this year who are usually huge buffers for me not having to talk to his mom/siblings for too long.

 

Honestly? Not a ton, haha. Mostly just use the time to relax and be around each other. I like how there's no expected activities. Just let everyone do what they want. Maybe I just feel like curling up near their fireplace and catch up on a good book. Then we'll have dinner and watch some TV show episode or movie.

It's relaxing and that's all I want when I visit. I don't want days full of activities.

My immediate family is very chill and pretty close politics wise (only my sister knows how leftward leaning I am since she's similar). I am anxious this year because they don't know about my piercing and tattoos. It won't be a big thing, but I'm anxious either way. I sort of grew up under their rule and it's still a struggle to feel comfortable making my own decisions that are at odds with what they might want. My sister is better at it.

Visiting extended family is always exhausting though. My grandparents don't stop watching Fox News and it just seeps into every conversation.
