Ahh, yeah. I can totally understand.

I always just wanted a small Safe Camp tattoo or an Esao Andrews/CS piece. The latter is easier to overcome if CS becomes cancelled--unless Esao also becomes cancelled, lol.

Well that's not exactly what I said, but I see your point. The accountability thread wouldn't exist if the most important thing wasn't giving voice to survivors - and we wouldn't have complex emotions about it if it were possible to completely separate ourselves from the emotion that music gives to us.

 

Yeah. I get that. Still a worry nonetheless in this day and age. But at the same time, I'd never look down on someone with a band tattoo unless they got it after the band did something bad and they were aware.

 

Totally honestly, my tattoo is not immediately recognizable as being a bn tattoo. I could lie to every single person about what it is/means and the vast majority would never know differently. However I still know that’s what it is. it’s extremely complex and brings a lot of emotions.

So what’s the answer? Never get any tattoos related to a man in power bc men in power consistently abuse it?? I dunno. I really don’t.

i think i get your point, that by saying you hope Band A isn't accused of something implies that your enjoyment outweighs survivors/victims comfort and well being, but at the same time, it always weighs on my mind (nowadays more than ever) when outwardly supporting an artist that i hope i'm making the right choices and supporting the right people, and i don't think that's inherently bad.

It's more me putting into perspective trying to understand what it's like to process divorcing yourself from a band you've followed for so long, like what happened with BN. Of course the most important thing is doing the right thing by the survivor, for the survivor - but to act like there aren't feelings that need to be processed there for fans is ignoring a huge part of all of this. That's why it needs to be a conversation and we have it over and over on this site all the time. I've been wrong before about a lot of things - but talking things through on here always helps me be better.

 

I always just hope the artists I listen to are decent people; no one's perfect but things like abusing your power over fans is unforgivable. Like AG always seems pretty nice even as he struggles with his addiction, but then I only get to see the side he puts on social media.
