something about retail that was horrible that im recognizing in retrospect is how it killed so many personal relationships because i couldnt do anything ever. i'd always make plans, get scheduled for that day, and have to cancel. then the days you ARE free the thought of going out all night is hell and you wind up canceling for mental health's sake. or you have to work at 6 the next morning when everyone else has it off. i think retail in my early 20s is when i really fell off of a lot of long time friendships and shit for that reason

 

Working at Starbucks took such a toll on my relationship at the time, I would come home absolutely exhausted and miserable and it would take me all day to recover, by that point I'd have to go to bed to get up at 4am and do it again. It's amazing how unhealthy working a $12/hr job can be, totally fucked.

Where'd you work? My husband suggested I work retail and I was like ummm how do u think I could handle that?! I think I'd come home crying everyday honestly.

 

One of the few things I liked about working for Target years ago was the schedule was always out 2 weeks in advance. They'd only call to get you in if someone called out or something and they needed help. I think I came in maybe once or twice due to that, I mostly just straight up ignored the calls.
