Random but my step mom who is a Christian fundamentalist, (and in all fairness has been nothing but kind to me but still) her family is from Latvia and I think she said that some of her uncles were auxiliary troops fighting the Russians in WW2 and tbh that doesn’t make them SS, after going home and googling it Latvia was invaded by the USSR then Nazi Germany than USSR again so maybe they were like some sort of Latvian independence fighters.
