Craig, I'm seriously waiting for that review! ;D That's well put! I think you nailed it with aiming it towards stretching a sonical palette in fact, that's why I love it as well. Huge TSOAF fan, but I wouldn't really notice that ;d I loved "The Heretic", and those songs aren't too similar to me, but you could perhaps easily blend them ;D
I was not expecting Penny, a surprising sound for them. I also agree that Color Worn sounds like Beggars era Thrice, more specifically Doublespeak. Shiver might be my new favorite Gates song. I was not expecting much from this album, but they blew me away. I'll be listening to this for awhile.
Still waiting for my review to go up, but yeah that's the things it reminded me of as well. Made a comparison to Ixora which I think is fair.
Shiver might end up being one of my favorite songs of the year Edit: also something I am noticing during my listen today-- some songs on the album reference other songs lyrically. do you guys think this could be loosely considered a concept record?
It also references back to Bloom and Breathe a few times both lyrically and melodically. I think Eyes is one I definitely recognized it in.
Really good review Craig. I don't think I like the album quiiiiite as much as you, but I agree with every point haha
i love this record tbh way better than bloom and breathe, its both more subtle and more explosive they really balance their two ends beautifully
There's ~parts of B&B I like more but I think this is a more cohesive and better album. It's also the prettiest vinyl I own.
**third thread's the charm, jesus** Bought my ticket to the release show at Mercury Lounge. It's my 25th birthday that day, so @cwhit @Zac Djamoos @Craig Ismaili do not disappoint me here. I'm a scared passive-aggressive midwesterner so don't be monsters that just leave me there alone
I listened to this today for some reason and I think it was better than I ever remember it being. Eyes through Empty Canvas is fuckin cash
I'd definitely include Forget and Habit in that stretch, but yeah this album rules. Only song that I feel is a little weak is Penny due to the lyrics, but it's a fun upbeat song and keeps the momentum going til the final duo
