I never usually think about lyrics unless they're offensively bad (I wear hearing aids and its hard for me to decipher them if I don't have the lyrics in from of me). I have to listen to O'Brother!!
I really like this album, but some of the lyrics can get cringey... I like how they sound more focused... I'll give some more thoughts later, but I love the details and the ultra-polished production for this type of music
House & Home makes me really sad. Mainly just the melody, I don't really pay attention to lyrics. It's one of my favorites but I'm finding it tough to listen to.
It's quite similar in my case, seeing as English is not really my first language - I have to focus much more to hear the words, or just sit down with lyrics. I can always adopt to the lyrics as well, of course if they're not offensively terrible! and I actually enjoy most of Kevin's words, although some songs might seem straightforward - but I'm the one to have no problem in lines like "longing to feel alive" ;D Ps. Oh, I thoroughly enjoy newest O'Brother, and it is definitely a grower for me. What's more, both "Endless Light" and "Parallel Lives" were produced by Mike Watts, who is really phenomenal in my opinion.
This was my first time listening to this band, so naturally I had not read this thread prior to my first listen of this album. I immediately made the MovMou connection, which I'm seeing you all did too lol. I really like this a lot though. Its one of those records I feel like I will be able to always through on and not get sick of. Eyes and Shiver are my early favorites.
After several listens I'm appreciating the differences in the songs more. Still prefer B&B, but this is a really good album. Ordered the vinyl.
I think the lyrics hit pretty hard for anyone that grew up in a house that their family no longer lives in.
I don't know about that, and we still have a while to go, but it's definitely really good. Much bigger fan of this than Bloom and Breathe.
Somehow I don't like this album, I feel the album lacks power from their previous release. It feels bland for me, "Empty Canvas" is phenomenal though. Edit: I'm on my second listen now, hope it grows on me.
That's probably my favorite song too. At least right now. 3:05-3:18 gives me Appleseed Cast vibes, love it. And I agree with @s12sim it definitely grows on you if you let it. But I liked it right away actually because it's finally something a little different from them.
Absolutely. I'm just thinking about how powerful the melody is that it can hit me hard without having an attachment to the lyrics.
On my fourth listens now, you're right it grows on me. Actually I start to appreciate this record even more. The melodies are amazing, but I found some of the vocal parts are kinda lazy and I still think it needs some power. Also, I found the second half of the album is more interesting, this is pretty solid record I guess. Now that you mention it, it actually sent shivers down my spine. That was just beautiful.
