I remember being pretty thrown off when they put out Habit and having to kinda reset my expectations for the record, but fell in love on my first full listen through. I was at work, and when the end of Shiver hit I fully headbanging at my desk lol. House & Home also hit a Moving Mountains self titled nerve that immediately resonated
I’m a recent fan so I don’t know if I have a barometer of the fan base stance, but I feel like fan bases rarely agree on anything. Personally, I like Parallel live significantly more than any of their other releases (although with a little more time I’ll have to see how much I like Here and Now)
I was around for both, I think B&B was generally better received as being the culmination of their sound up until that point, and the quieter and more reserved vibe of PL threw some people off, but I don't think it was rejected or anything. I think I like B&B better but there'll definitely be times where I'm more in the mood for PL. Anyway I've listened through this once (too busy listening to Mastodon) but I really liked what I heard. I'll be excited to listen again.
I actually don't love this new one as much as any of their other records... I've only listened twice so I hope it grows on me. This just feels like territory they've covered before IMO
As much as I dig the EP, this is totally valid. It’s not really doing anything new sonically or showing a range of dynamics like we know they’re capable of. Super happy to hear them again at all but very much looking forward to something a little less safe as they get back into the swing of things
I think this is great and what this band does so well is keep their signature sound while constantly doing things different. Watching the videos breaking down the pedals and guitar parts, watching them run through their set on IG today, and giving it time to grow has made this hit hard for me. I felt the same about the first single when it first came out, didn’t think it was anything new but now it’s one of my favorite songs of the moment
"We Are" is just such a lovely tune goddamn don't know if I ever heard Parallel Lives, so my opinion is probably skewed, but I don't mind how closely this sticks to their previous sound. as a refresher little EP after so many years away it's nice to just be reminded what this band does and how fucking good they are at it (and for a six-song EP they did pick a fair bit of diversity in there too) if an album does end up happening then yeah hopefully they stretch out a bit more than they did here, but for now I'm loving this
You and anyone else who has never heard Parallel Lives need to go do that asap! It’s an unbelievable record.
Giving this a first listen now and wow it’s gorgeous. Bloom and Breathe has always been my favorite release by them, and this to me feels like the perfect meeting point between that and what they went on to do with Parallel Lives. I don’t personally mind that this isn’t anything new for them, because they do this sound so well.
Think that PL was more viewed more as a “lateral” move for the band than a clear progression or lurch forward in quality. Band was still finding their footing. H&N is a very reassuring comeback EP
I think my favorite thing this time is how confident the vocals sound. I think the vocals have always been good, but I think most were probably a fan of what was going on instrumentally more than vocally, but this changes that a little for me.
I was thinking the same thing. This EP definitely has my favorite vocal performances from Kevin, he sounds excellent.
I did notice that We Are has a stellar vocal performance. this thing overall is growing on me though I do hope they take some risks next time.
Hey be grateful they're on that first SD date! I cant remember the last time they came out to the west coast.
Got to see them headline ln which was such a treat. Not a ton of people there but the vibes were extremely good. They played in some order Bloom Not My Blood Out Of Nothing/Where to Begin Walls Pretending Eyes The Thing That Would Save You Captive Left Behind there was one other short/slowish song they played before Captive I think but I don't recall what it was. Go see em if they're coming to your city with Covet and Hikes, they sound great
Didn't even know this existed until today. This EP is really scratching that Moving Mountains s/t itch.
Had no idea this came out for some reason. I guess I had just accepted they were done years ago. This is super super good.
