Dave went down the line of the people waiting on line for the show and talked to each, and every person, for like 3min or longer. Very nice person, and hoping they get way bigger in the US/UK, they deserve it
my brother's Australian gf got me the white vinyl edition of this for Christmas! what the fuck kind of prices do their first two go for?!?!?
For any fellow Aussies, I have a good feeling about In The Wake's Hottest 100 chances. I've not listened to a bunch of JJJ this year but surely it's in with a shot.
Never listened to this band before, but wow, this album is incredible. How are the previous albums in comparison? Need to get into this band after listening to 'angel in realtime.' after reading about it on the year end list.
The others are much more straightforward heartland rock type stuff imo, think the national covering Springsteen is usually how I pitch them
The National/Springsteen pretty much nails it. Go Farther in Lightness is incredible and I listen to it often still. The Positions is great, but I return to it less often.
Listening to this record for a second time before diving into the previous stuff. Returner, Brothers, and Goal of the Century are the stand out tracks thus far for me.
Don’t rush through. Take some time to wrap your head around the songs. There is great iTunes write up on the story behind Real Time and Dave’s Dad which makes this album spectacular.
I think each album has gotten better. Honestly didn’t think they could top Go Farther in Lightness but they managed it somehow.
I don’t know about topped Go Farther…for me….equaled while being stylistically different but still GOY. I think both records are fantastic journeys
I think Go Farther will always remain the fan favourite (along with Magnolia). Those tracks got an absolutely raucous response in Oz compared with the (still good) response to the Angel songs. Go Farther was their mainstream breakout in Oz so it's going to be a lot of people's first GOY record. It also has more scream-alongs than the more luxurious sounds of Angel. Angel is even better for sure. But I think most will always point to Go Farther.
yeah Magnolia was a real Moment over this side of the world. I still know people who don't care to listen to their overall work who swear by that song. it's a goddamn good song
I don't go back to it quite as much as a bunch of my other favorites from the last few years, but every time I do...hoo boy, it always gets me.
This is definitely one of my favorite releases from last year, but also I haven't been able to listen to it since losing my mom last fall.
