I think this is *clearly* better than GFIL. and I *loved* GFIL. but this the music is so gorgeous, and the writing is SO much better, imo. Not a single song that is less than great on this album. Miraculous album.
I love both records and I could see someone making a case for both GFIL and AIRT being their best. I think a lot of people still love the guitar driven and cathartic release on GFIL. I know it’s too early to think next record, but AIRT is a very specific record with a very specific theme/topic and a very specific use of samples of to tie in his father’s heritage. It’ll be cool to see where they go from here (and I know that could be years away).
Hope things get better soon Album will be here when you’re ready - think you’ll really love it when the time is right.
GFIL is one of my favorites of the past decade and I think AIRT is a massive step up. Pretty amazing what they've done on this one.
Brothers is one of my songs of the year, and the ending of the album hits me like a train every time i hear it. And it's six in the morning And England is storming My wife is asleep and We're thinking of children I wish you could meet them
Also shout out Daniel Ricciardo for not only being name checked, but providing backing vocals and percussion. Did not expect that when i read the liner notes. Very cool.
There is an in studio making of video he did where he’s all giddy showing some of the stuff he did. Likely still on YouTube
If you haven’t tried their previous release, GFIL, you might be in a better situation for that one. Totally a guess though & not trying to impose this band on ya. but that record is something special as far as encouraging positivity & hope during times of turmoil
Just found out these are playing my city on Saturday and not only do I have plans, but tickets are basically all gone other than expensive resellers markets. Gutted.
spirit boy, forbearance and Deepest Sighs are currently in a cage match for my favourite song by this motherfucking band
Hand of God and Goal of the Century end this thing perfectly. The “olderrrrrr, wiser now” part in HoG is so good. The last few lines in particular on Goal of the Century keep hitting me
