I don’t have an issue with triple j making a statement and highlighting Australian music, but the fact that the Aussie picks are so homogeneous doesn’t represent listeners of heavy music or anything that isn’t mainstream pop and hip-hop
Im gonna try too and thankfully there are 13 songs so there is still some more to discover if I cave. We’ve all been waiting for this for a while
was just looking through the album credits for this, and 1) lol totally forgot Adam Duritz is on this thing until I saw he does backing vocals on "forbearance" and 2) it lists two bonus tracks, "a fantastic death" and an alternate "the angel of 8th ave". really hope that means those get an official release somewhere
I've never really connected with their past stuff but have been loving the singles so far for this album. Plan to go back through their discography eventually.
Really pumped for this and love the singles, but I want a few songs to have shredding guitars like GFIL. I know the guitarist left so my dreams probably won’t come true. I just have to set my my expectations differently to not include shredding. I really do like some of the new funkiness like in Tend the Garden

This band deserves to get bigger in North America. I only found them based on a recommendation post from Dustin Kensrue of Thrice a long while back now and GFIL was a great start point. The Positions and Let Me Clear are both good and interesting, GFIL is just so epic and grand, and I’m expecting Angel in Real-time to feel like a resolution/start of a new path.
People will be throwing out the term masterpiece tomorrow I’m sure, but I feel like that’s what GFIL will be for them. Making such an awesome record allowed then the freedom to have a member go and still feel accomplished and work on material in yet another new direction
In music, I view the masterpiece as the album all other albums by a band will be compared to. I feel GFIL was defining for the band and happened relatively early. That doesn’t take the feat or brilliance away from any subsequent albums for me. Having a masterpiece gives you freedom to experiment and do a record like Angel. My take.
Forgot I have a VPN, listening to it now. you in everything is bringing such a smile to my face. this band is so positively life affirming
